My cat has a swollen area with an infected hole. What's wrong?

Oh no, poor MK! This sounds very serious these lumps have slowly been growing, and I would be very concerned that these lump are malignant tumors. It's also concerning that it has opened up to a wound on top. Given that this is spread and opening up, the best thing to do it have MK seen by a vet. I too am worried about infection and the seriousness of these, so it would be best to have her seen by a vet right away for this. Please take her into the vet first thing in the morning.

There is no way of knowing for sure without an examination though this represents a reason to seek veterinary care. This is usually determined with an examination and a fine needle aspirate (FNA) or a biopsy. Treatment depends on the findings up to that point. Mano should be examined by a veterinarian. Cat bites can quickly become infected which will require antibiotics for treatment. The puncture in her abdomen should be examined to make sure it did not puncture the abdominal wall. This would be a serious situation. The swelling near her tail could be a developing abscess. You can share pictures if you request a consultation, but Mano would be better served by a physical exam followed up with the appropriate veterinary treatments.

I'm wondering if your cat is spayed or not. If your cat isn't spayed, she could have a mammary tumor. In cats, 90% of these are malignant. She does have to see a vet for this problem, as a malignant tumor could also be causing her to vomit. Please take her into a vet now. Best of luck.

It looks like Izzy has an abscess. In that location it is usually due to a bite from another cat. It is actually good that it burst open. It may heal now if you keep it clean (1:10 dilution of Betadine solution to water) and apply Neosporin ointment to it. However, often times once it seals closed the infection will return. More often that not cats need antibiotics to get these to heal completely. So, my suggestion would be to get her to your vet for an exam and some antibiotics. If you want to try to keep it clean and treat it at home you can try that but if it appears to heal and then comes back she will need to see your vet. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

It's possible Chse may have an abscess if the area is swelling and painful on touch. Abscesses, or infections under the skin can happen if she recently got into a fight or had another wound occur. Other possible causes can include growths, skin infections, potential muscular hernias, allergies or even parasite bites. Having it checked out by your vet is best to find the underlying cause and start on treatment. Until you can get to the vet, keeping her from licking or chewing at it with the use of an Elizabethan (cone) collar is best to prevent further irritation.

Mammary growths in cats have a high chance of being a malignant cancer. Since they are open and draining, they may also be infected It would be best to have a vet check the area to see if surgery is an option to remove them or at least medication to help clean them and clear the infection.
