How long did my cat suffer after a dog attack and internal bleeding?

Poor guy. Typically internal bleeding in the abdomen will cause bruising along the belly, in many cases. Also pale gums can indicate internal bleeding, along with severe lethargy and a lack of appetite. So unless you are seeing these things he likely doesn’t have any internal bleeding going on. However, dog bites tend to get infected, so it’s best to have him seen soon for antibiotics and wound management. You can also clean his wounds with Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water to help deter infection. Keep an eye on him tonight and tomorrow and get him seen first thing Monday if that is your only option for vet care. If he seems unstable (mostly the symptoms I mentioned above) at any point, then an ER vet visit is highly recommended. I hope that Blackjack is able to recover well. Best wishes and take care.

I'm so sorry to hear about your poor kitty! It's impossible to know exactly what happened if no one saw it - but if he was found next to the road, then I suspect he probably died pretty quickly or possibly even instantly. The blood from his nose & mouth suggests he was hit with a strong impact, and animals who are directly hit by vehicles often pass away very quickly, and often lose consciousness immediately. I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope this helps a little bit with closure.

I am so sorry your cat died recently, please accept my condolences for your loss. The massive wounds may have been the cause of his death. He could have had internal injures you weren't aware of it, and that could have lead to him vomiting food and then blood. Unfortunately, without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what caused his death. I recommend having a necropsy (an autopsy for animals) done on him, which may give you some answers as to what caused his death. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss :-(

It's actually possible that he's both sore and has an internal injury. The blood in Kermit's mouth could be his own if his mouth was injured. I'd recommend taking him into the vet now. He should have a physical exam, blood tests, a urinalysis, and x-rays to diagnose if he does have any internal injuries, and the vet can treat him for it.

I am sorry to hear about your loss. That is definitively possible unfortunately as soft tissues injuries could be not immediately visible and even minimal bleeding can be fatal to kittens of that age unfortunately.

We see a lot of older dogs on Emergency for collapsing. A common cause is bleeding around the heart (pericardium) due to a mass on the right atrium of the heart or from a ruptured tumor on the spleen or liver in the belly. If Jimmy's belly was big and the Vet said it was from blood then I would assume that there was a tumor that burst in his belly from the spleen or liver. The best option is to take your kitty into a vet now. Even though there is no blood, there could be internal injuries from the attack, such as a broken hip or leg bone, and he really needs an exam and x-rays from the vet now to rule that out. I would take him into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now. There will be a vet on call in your area for emergencies, and you can find that information on the clinic's answering machine or website. If you absolutely can't get him into a vet tonight, keep him indoors, quiet, and warm. Offer him only water, and do not give him any human pain medications. Many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. Then have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning.
