Why is my cat suddenly only playing with me and won't let go of a toy?

Thanks for using PetCoach. This is a normal play behavior. (So is reaching out to claw your pants as you walk by or trying to catch your hands with her claws while you pet her.) There are two ways I handle this. One is to stop petting and leave so that she knows play time is over. Honestly it hasn’t really worked yet (she still does it sometimes) and my cat is now 18 mos. What seems to work better is to get up and grab her favorite toy and start playing with that. That is something she CAN bite and claw at and get those natural play behaviors out- without chomping my hands. It sounds like Snuggle has created her own game. I see that she is a kitten, so I would work on environmental enrichment for her to more appropriately get her energy out. My best recommendation would be to find ways for Snuggle to use her hunting skills without involving you or your soon. There are these amazing toys by Catit such as the senses play circuit. It's a ball on a track that cats can chase around and around on their own. They have a whole series of toys designed for solitary play, so check it out online. These may be suitable for Leo. I hope this helps!

With the kitten to keep him amused, the toys may not be as exciting as they once were, after all, you got him a living, breathing toy to play with. Leave the toys available, make sure they both have perches and cat trees and places to scratch and look out the windows, but don't worry too much if it's a while before he plays with them. You may try a different kind of toy than what he has, maybe a wand toy with feathers so you can play with him, or some foam or mylar balls that crinkle and he can carry around, just to see if you can entice him to play with you again.

She is playing. Usually kittens play hunt like that with their siblings or other cats, but since there are no other cats she picks the next best moving thing....you.. Get a fishing toy (stick with a string and a feather on it) or tie a crumpled up piece of paper on a string and play with her. Set aside at least 30 minutes/day for wild playing with your kitty. I am sure this will reduce the the pounce attacks, if not stop them completely. It is all about growing up and learning to be a predator. This has to be practiced (it is an instinct, not a bad habit) and you can support that. So instead of turning yourself into the prey, let the paper or feather serve as prey.

Congratulations on adding Alfredo to your family! Cats can develop all sorts of unusual behavior. Its likely the gentle biting is to get your attention and the dragging around you laundry is likely a play behavior. He probably likes the dirty laundry best because it smells more like you. It's possible he is bored and so is inventing his own games. Try meeting his instinctual needs and providing some new stimulation.
