My cat is suddenly hiding and growling. What's wrong with her?

Why is my cat hiding under the bed and every time I try to touch her she does this deep very different growl if never heard before?

It could be Jenna isn't feeling well, and that is making her grumpy. A sudden change in attitude including hiding and aggression can be a sign of a medical illness. I'd take her into the vet first thing in the morning to get checked out. Best of luck.

Thank you for the information on Mittens! With this being a new behavior and with the hiding under the bed, I am worried that she isn't feel well or she is in pain. Since they can't talk to us, these are common behaviors that they do to exhibit pain or illness. She could be in pain from an injury like a pulled muscle, hurt neck/back, an infection somewhere, etc. They can also act this way if there is a urinary tract infection or a fever and don't feel well which are quite common in cats. Since this is new behavior, I would certainly have her checked out by your vet. Your vet will check her temperature, do a thorough exam to try and rule out pain and possibly even do an urinalysis. I'm sorry you are facing this frustrating problem. I would recommend that you take the one who is suddenly being "grumpy" to the vet. Sometimes if they are painful or not feeling well, they will become more irritable. You can try temporarily separating them again, or separating them for at least part of the day so that the "victim" has a "safe zone" or some time where he or she feels safe. But the sudden onset of the change in behavior does concern me that something may be going on with the one who is acting more aggressive. Sudden behavioral changes can sometimes indicate an issue such as pain or illness. If Mel has been hiding she may be feeling stressed or unwell. Scheduling a vet check up if the behavior continues is a good next step. It sounds like something is making J-Cat nervous. I think I’m understanding that she has housemates but typically she gets along with them. It could be something outside that she heard or something she saw inside that is making her anxious. Even though she doesn’t seem obviously painful if this behavior continues I’d recommend seeing your veterinarian to rule out pain as a cause.

Cats can unfortunately be fickle and change up where they sleep, but this can also be a sign of an illness. Given that you say this is extremely out of character for Fluffy, I would have her seen by a vet tomorrow for a health check.
