Is my cat's sudden side hair loss from a vet visit or vaccine shot?

No, Missing hair is not a common side effect of vaccinations, and certainly not within hours of the vaccines. I would worry more about things like ring worm or mites. I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian. They may consider a skin scrape or a fungal culture for ring worm. Looks like Bolinha is having a mild skin reaction perhaps to the vaccine, if it was injected in this area. This isn't considered normal but it is a reaction and it is best to notify your vet that this occurred. A pre-medicaiton can be given before this vaccine is given in the future to help avoid this from happening again. Unfortunately the hair may not grow back, but as long as he is not having any other symptoms (lethargy, not eating, vomiting) then he should be ok. Hi there. It is hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like the skin looks pretty normal. Has she recently had any injections in that are? Vaccines, or pain medication really any injection in a cat can cause inflammation and hair loss. If the area is red, has a scab, or continues to spread then she should probably have an examination by a veterinarian. Hopefully the hair grows back soon!

I have seen this as a reaction to certain spot-on flea/tick treatments, vaccines and microchipping. If any of these were recently done, then I would be most suspicious of them being the cause. The skin appears a red, which indicates that something is irritating it and it appears oily, but I'm assuming that's from the antibiotic ointment. For now, it's best to just keep the area clean with a medicated cat shampoo. You can get this at the pet store. I would clean it once daily and not put the antibiotic cream on it. Use cool water when washing and rinsing to give some relief. You can stop the daily cleanings when the skin appears healthy again and the hair is obviously growing back. If the hair loss continues and the skin appears worse, then it's best to have a vet look at it, because it may need special treatment. I hope that helps and Phoebe gets better soon.

Hi. It is difficult to say from the photo. Hair loss can be caused by infection, allergies, irritants, yeast, ectopic parasites like mites/fleas/etc., and many more. I would recommend getting him seen by your veterinarian, and having them perform skin testing based on mist probable cause

This could be a skin infection caused by a fungus (ringworm), or bacteria or an old injury. Since ringworm is contagious to people and other pets in the house, I suggest you have this examined by your veterinarian to rule out a fungal infection. In the meantime do wash your hands after handling your kitty. Your vet will want to take a brush sample from the spot and culture it and until the culture has grown, will probably give you some medication to treat it.

I am not sure if he is losing the hair just in the area where you applied the flea and tick medication or is he losing hair in general? It is a ell known side effect. Some cats have more sensitive skin and so react with losing their hair in the area of the application. As long a the skin does not look angry or red or injured you do not have to worry. Most of the time the hair will regrow. Should the skin react angrily you will need to have your vet examine your kitty. He may need some ointment on the lesion.
