What caused my cat's sudden death after a fall, wound, and illness?

I am so sorry your cat died recently, please accept my condolences for your loss. The massive wounds may have been the cause of his death. He could have had internal injures you weren't aware of it, and that could have lead to him vomiting food and then blood. Unfortunately, without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what caused his death. I recommend having a necropsy (an autopsy for animals) done on him, which may give you some answers as to what caused his death. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss :-(

First off, I'm sorry for the loss of Sox! How horrible for you and please accept my condolences for your loss. It sounds like he was sick for a while given the symptoms you have described, and he could have been suffering from a systemic illness, liver failure, kidney failure, or even cancer leading to his death. Unfortunately I cannot say for certain, but it is very sad that he passed away. I'm sure he knew he was loved by you, and you were doing the best you could for him. First off, I'm so sorry you suddenly lost Leo! There could be a couple of things that could have caused his death. It could be he got into something toxic, or he may have been hit by a car causing severe internal injuries but no apparent outside injuries. It may be that whatever ultimately caused his death made him so sick and/or injured that he was unable to make it home to you. If his body is still at the vet, you can request that the vet does a necropsy (an autopsy for animals) on him. That may give you some answers as to the cause of his death. I am sorry to hear about Sweetpea's passing, that sounds extremely distressing for you and your family. It is very possible she was injured in the fall and that caused her passing, or there may have been an underlying health issue that caused it as well, however without an exam or necropsy (animal autopsy) it would be impossible to say what caused her passing. There are three very common diseases that cats get that can cause his symptoms: diabetes, kidney failure and hyperthyroidism. If left untreated, all can cause death. I doubt a virus has much to do with it but of course it is possible. As for the vitamins, if they were made for cats that is not likely the cause. If it was not cat vitamins then it is possible he was overdosed. Not all vitamins are safe in large doses. I am sorry this happened and that he passed. In the future please get your cat examined by a veterinarian before the disease has progressed to this point. When they start losing weight that should be a good indicator that something is wrong especially if they are not eating and lethargic as well. Best wishes.

Hello. I am so sorry for your loss. It is possible that Jason hit the back of his head severing his spinal cord. His death was swift & painless. But I wonder if something actually occurred while he was attempting to jump on the mantle. It is possible he suffered some type of cardiac event that caused him to fall. This too would have been a swift & painless death. Sometimes in life, we see death way too early. Whether it is by accident by trauma or a birth defect that just now shows up, things happen. Assure your daughter that Jaxson did not suffer & while his life was short, it was meaningful because he had people who loved him. Hello and I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your kitty. It is so heart breaking to lose them. Without an autopsy, one can't be certain, but most often in a cat without any other clinical signs, it's usually a bad heart that will cause sudden death. One of the most most common heart diseases in cats is called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. It often has no symptoms. It is often not detectable on a physical exam. Sometimes there will be fluid in the lungs from congestion in the lungs that can leak out after passing. I hope this helps to provide some closure and with time, I hope your heart heals.
