My cat is stressed after moving and won't poop. Is she constipated?

I hate to hear Minks is having this issue and it sounds like you have tried many things. Sometimes if the kitty will not have a BM in the box, it can indicate pain in the bowels. Try changing to food to a diet with a higher fiber content and adding in a higher fiber content canned food as well. You need both the fiber and the water content. There are also prescription diets available for this purpose. The one I like the best is made by Royal Canin and is called Fiber Reaponse. If this doesn’t help, it may be behavioral. Your veterinarian may be able to provide medication that may help. Stress relief is important as you know. Just in case, here are a few things you may not know or haven’t tried. Cats tend to like a large, uncovered litter box that is in a private location where they cannot be trapped by other pets. They also like a clay based clumping litter that is cleaned daily. Cats who have access to climbing areas or can get up high have less stress. If this is determined to be behaviors. There is a prescription diet called Calm which affects the serotonin levels in the brain and may be helpful. Try to set aside at least 30 minutes a day for vigorous play. I am sorry to hear about Piper. I would check around the home and be sure there isn't a location she is using to have bowel movements (sometimes the stress of travel may cause accidents outside the litterbox). If you do not find any and she has been eating normally it is possible she is constipated. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Moosh is pooping every 3-4 days and he does not have any problems to defecate it may be normal for him. However, if he is showing signs of constipation, like straining, painful defecation, very large volume of stools it is not normal and should be address. The easiest way to avoid constipation is adding fibre to the diet. You can try food supplements (can be veterinary or human product) containing inulin or psylium. If this does not work, your vet should able to prescribe a mild laxative for Moosh

Poor Monty. If Monty seems lethargic, vomits, or gets into the position to urinate and does not produce any urine, then I would take him to the veterinarian immediately. However, since we know he prefers not to use a litterbox and had the stress of the move, that might be your explanation. If you have any idea where he used to like to urinate/defecate (grass, dirt, mulch, plants, etc), I would try to replicate that in the new yard since that is his preferred area to go. The other problem is that most cats want to have privacy, so he may not go in front of you (while on a leash). Since we are coming into a holiday weekend, I would recommend having your vet evaluate him tomorrow (presuming that they are open) if he does not urinate overnight tonight just to make sure that everything is OK. It is very common for a cat to not have any bowel movement for a couple of days after having diarrhea because it takes time for stool to build up again in the colon after an episode of diarrhea. I would be concerned if she is straining to defecate without producing any stool, vomiting or not eating. If everything seems normal other than the lack of stool production, then I would just give it a little more time. My guess is that she will pass some stool tonight or tomorrow. If she has not passed stool by tomorrow night, I would have her examined on Friday before going into the weekend. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Hello. Is Fluffy sitting in the litter box trying to poop? I am not sure what fibo syrup has in it ( tried to research this product & can not find the ingredients ), but we use a product called Miralax here. It is also known as polyethylene glycol 3350. We will give 1/8 - 1/4 teaspoon with each meal of wet food. Try to increase fluid intake by offering chicken or beef stocks & broths, tuna water, & of course, fresh water. If Fluffy is eating, give her another 24 hours, but if she does not defecate, she may need professional help & you will need to have her evaluated by your veterinarian. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is somewhat expected to some extent though it is important to make sure she is drinking water so she does not get dehydrated. I would encourage her to drink and you may get more than 1 litter box to encourage her to use it. If she does not improve within 2-3 days, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment in case there is something else going on. Best of luck!
