My cat stopped meowing but acts normal. Should I take him to the vet?

Hello, sorry to hear about Thomas. As long as he is otherwise acting like his normal self now that you are back, (eating, drinking, defecating, urinating, and having normal activity) then I would monitor at home to see if his voice returns. However, if you think Thomas is showing additional signs of illness, especially if he is not eating or if he is having a hard time chewing/ingesting his food the I would have him evaluated immediately. Ensure he has adequate food, water and that he is using the bathroom regurlarly. Best of luck and hope this helps.

Yes, they can. Sometimes it can be temporary, but othertimes it can be a sign of a medical problem. Hopefully since he is so young, its nothing thats major or concerning, BUT, i wouls recommend an exam to be sure. They will do full exam of mouth, ears, throat, chest and heart and guide you from there.

If he is acting otherwise normally I would give him a few days to see if the problem resolves. If not, he should see the vet. You didn't mention Loki's age but if he is a bit older a thyroid problem can cause a loss of the "meow".

I think it is ok to wait, and monitor T closely for the next 24-48 hours. Certain viruses can cause a change in a cat's voice and as long as there are no other signs, supportive care is really the only course of treatment in many cases. That will often stop cats from meowing and purring. If his is fine in himself, you should just monitor him for a few days at home. He should be back to normal after the weekend, but if you notice signs of gagging, retching or lack of appetite, you should get him checked by your local vets.
