My cat's stomach wound won't heal after 1.5 years; what's this worm?

Poor Casper. I am concerned that He has a bad bacterial infection in that area. Since it has been 2 months, there is a good chance that he could have a resistant infection. I would talk to your vet to see if he could do a culture and sensitivity on the wound. This is to see what type of bacteria is in the wound and what type of antibiotics are needed to clear it up. It likely reopened after being sutured because either it is infected or there is some other cause. Since he is a stray cat, he could also have feline leukemia or feline aids slowing down his healing. I would also talk to your vet about testing him for these viruses. I hope this helps!

Hi, it looks like Gelato has an infected wound. If you take a close look to the picture you can see there is a yellow tinge to it. It is not going to heal while infected. To start with, you could clean the area with some salty water putting one spoon of salt in a mug of hot water and leaving it to cool down. Once the salty water is luke warm, you can use it on the wound with some cotton wool. It might be that the yellow scab comes off and it leaves an open gap that it oozing some discharge. I also recommend to wear gloves to clean the wound. If possible at all, nest to have it checked over so your vet can clean it for you, and give antibiotics. Hope this helps !

Ok. I'm not 100% sure I know what you are asking so I hope I can help you. 1. This looks like a wound as you stated. There is no way for me to tell you how it happened. 2. I do not see any worm(s) coming out but that is actually not unheard of. I don't know if you have cuterebra in your country but we get them in the US. It does not, however, look like a cuterebra infection. 3. I think the Soframycin you were using was fine. I cannot read the name of the spray that was recommended to you so I can't really comment on it. If your vet recommended the spray then you are better off using that. 4. If your cat wants to lick you need to stop him by using a "cone" collar. If he continues to lick it, it will not heal no matter what use on it. Poor Babie! Wounds caused by other animals are very likely to get infected without treatment, so the best thing to do is to book Babie in with your vet. He may need sedation in order for the vet to see how deep the wound is, and will also likely need a course of antibiotics.

Nonresolving skin lesions can be due to a variety of causes, including severe trauma and necrosis of the skin, a resistant bacterial infection, or an immune disorder, among others. If it is non-resolving, it may need surgical removal in order for the rest of the skin to heal, and a culture for a resistant infection and a biopsy can be done in order to determine further what may be going on. I really cannot give you an answer on this. Did the vet have a sensitivity test performed on the bacteria to find out what the best antibiotic would be best to treat it? This is not a common bacteria we see here in the U.S. in cats. This is thought to be an opportunistic bacteria that only grows if there is a problem with the immune system. Has the cat been tested for feline leukemia or feline AIDS? I guess if he has been holding on for a year already he will probably heal up eventually with the correct treatment if he has no underlying immune deficiency.

That would is bad enough that it requires veterinary care in person, especially if it is painful and has been there for weeks. Your vet can examine, clean it, and prescribe medication for pain and antibiotics for infection to help it heal.
