My 19-year-old cat has spreading bloody paw growths. What is it?

This lump/bump/growth should be ideally examined by your local vet to have a diagnosis established. Your vet may want to perform an FNA (fine needle aspiration) or a biopsy to sample the bump and determine its underlying nature. Differentials would include infections, a skin cyst, benign or more malignant type of tumors. There is no way of knowing what it is just based on its appearance. This is often differentiated by a test called a fine needle aspirate (FNA) which is a pain free, inexpensive and easy procedure which in most cases will help reach a diagnosis. Sometimes a biopsy is needed for a definitive diagnosis. Usually this unfortunately cannot be treated at home since we do not know what it is. I recommend that you have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. I am really hoping for something benign. Good luck and have a good day!

Poor Misty. It could be she has injured her paw or has an infection causing the swelling and bleeding. Unfortunately this isn't something that can be treated with OTC medications, she needs to see a vet. I would take her into a vet now to have this treated. Best of luck.

Poor kitty. Unfortunately the photo is too dark to really get a good look at the paw. I do see some crusting there though, which leads me to think this is just an infection and not likely skin cancer. Feel free to repost another photo with a second forum question, with better lighting to verify. If it is just infection, then you can try soaking the paw in Betadine diluted 50:50 with warm water or Chlorhexidine solution 3% diluted into a light blue mixture to help clean this antiseptically. Then a vet visit will be needed to get Cream on some antibiotics (oral or injectable). I hope that Cream's foot heals well soon! Best wishes and take are.

This is definitely a mass, however it is not possible to say whether it is benign or malign from a photo. Your vet will likely suggest the complete surgical removal of this mass. He may also suggest a biopsy or a fine needle aspirate (FNA) where some tissue of the mass is removed and then either sent in to a laboratory or examined under the microscope. This will help determine whether this is a malignant mass or a harmless one.

Even though a picture would help to understand better the underlying cause, This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. It's very hard to judge from a picture, it could be an infection but at her age a tumor would not be surprising. this sore needs to be checked and analysed as there are many conditions and types of tumors that could look like that. take Kitty to the vet, they will perform a fine needle aspiration on the growth and send it to the lab for analysis. when the result comes, the vet will advise what needs to be done according to the diagnosis.
