My cat is very sleepy after vaccine. Vet is unavailable. What to do?

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Male | 3 months and 4 days old

Today at noon I gave my caper a vaccine from the vet and now he's not feeling well,(sleeping).What should I do ,Thus the vet is out of the area for 2 days

Poor Casper. Some cats can develop fever or soreness after vaccination. If he is very sore, not eating and sleeping excessively it's worth considering a visit to the emergency vet for Casper to be evaluated and medicated to treat a possible vaccine reaction. If he is sleeping more but still getting up to eat and drink and use the litter box it may be a milder reaction that will subside with time. in either case be sure to let his regular vet know so that he can possibly be pre-treated with medication before vaccines from now on. Hope he feels better soon.
Do Not Give any OTC pain or fever meds to Casper. Cats cannot metabolize many human medications and they can be fatal.

I am so sorry that your cat Milo is ill following vaccines. These are classic signs for a vaccine reaction, and therefore I recommend having him seen by your vet right away. If you vet is currently not open, then I would consider taking him to your ER vet to make sure he is stable and ok. He will likely get medications (antihistamine +/- steroids) to help combat the reaction. I do hope that your pet Milo is able to make a full and speedy recovery. I would notify your vet about this as soon as you can so that precautions can be taken next year when he is due for his vaccine boosters to help prevent this from happening again. My cat is sleeping a lot and sore after vaccine. Is this normal?

I'm so sorry that Noushmc isn't feeling well. Pain at the injection site and mild lethargy are very common with vaccinations and considered normal since the vaccination is stimulating the immune system. It usually lasts 1-2 days and will resolve on its own. If Nouschmc is not eating, is vomiting or it lasts more than 2 days, I would contact your veterinarian. Good luck! Why is my cat so tired and in pain after her recent vaccine?

This sounds like a side effect of the vaccine, it's not super common but i'v seen a few cases already and this usually resolves within 48-72 hours. your vet could give her pain killers for a couple days if her condition seems to be really bad.

My cat is not eating and lethargic after vaccine. Is it a reaction?

Poor Jasper! The timing of his signs certainly correlate with his vaccine. Not eating and lethargy (as well as vomiting, diarrhea, facial swelling and hives) can be signs of a vaccine reaction. Vaccine reactions are uncommon, but do happen. If Jasper still isn't eating by later today, I would give your vet a call to have him rechecked. Some vaccine reactions require steroids and/or antihistamines for treatment.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach to address your concern. My suggestion would be to have the veterinarian who administer the vaccination recheck Suzie. Sometimes vaccination reactions can cause the symptoms you are seeing so it would be advisable to have her looked at so the reaction does not progress. Your vet can then administer medications to help treat a possible reaction such as benadryl and a steroid injection. I hope this helps and I hope Suzie gets better! Why is my cat lethargic and acting strange after vet vaccines?

It is possible that Smokey is experiencing a vaccine reaction they can have a fever and be lethargic for 24 hours after the injections. If it persist longer than that I would return to the vet for medication. Be sure to notify your vet of this reaction so they can premed or split up the injections in the future
