My cat is skinny, lost a tooth, and won't gain weight. What's wrong?

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | neutered | 6 lbs

So I moved and my cat use too be all brown and black so when ever me and my family started taking all the animals to are new house my cat turned all white!! And got really skinny . So I started feeding him canned food and he still won't go back to his normal weight but is starting to slowly go to a beige color but only in spots! I have no idea what to do about the weight and do not have the money to get a check up until maybe a month for now ! He also lost one of his fangs! Is that a problem

I'm not quite sure what would cause Noodles's fur to change colors but as long as his skin underneath looks okay I wouldn't be too concerned.

I am concerned about the weight loss. If Noodles has lost a tooth it is possible that he has painful dental disease that is making him not want to eat. Other possibilities include intestinal parasites, kidney disease or even diabetes.

I would encourage you to see a veterinarian as soon as you can. Blood work and a fecal test would probably be recommended. You could call your local animal shelter and see if there is any subsidized veterinary care in your area, or look into Care Credit (www.carecredit.com).

In an older cat, my first thought would be dental disease. This would be painful for Krinkle, cause him to eat less, and subsequent weight loss. It could also be that he has diabetes, kidney failure, or hyperthyroidism. Having him seen by a vet this week is a good idea. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Chica. I recommend that she has bloodwork and urine testing done soon to check for diseases that could be making her so skinny. For example, thyroid disease is a common cause of weight. Diabetes can cause the same to occur. Other cats can have kidney disease. I would also recommend testing her pancreatitis. This can be done with the bloodwork. Fecal testing to rule out parasites can he helpful as well. This is especially important if she goes outdoors. I hope this information helps!

IF she isn't eating properly and losing weight, there is definitely something wrong with her, if she eats the wet food with great appetite, then the dry food must be the issue and that could be either due to a teeth disease or a partial GI blockage. either way you need to take her to the vet ASAP, she will need to be checked, especially her mouth, if nothing unusual is found during the physical examination the next step will be a blood test to try and find out what is wrong.

I would recommend having some blood work performed on your cat. Hyperthyroidism is a common disease in middle aged to older cats that causes an increase metabolism so cats are often very hungry but unable to gain weight. I would also recommend having your vet check a fecal sample to ensure that Koda does not have any intestinal parasites as this can cause weight loss as well. I hope this helps. My cat stopped eating, losing weight, and acting sick. What's wrong?

I'm sorry to hear that Nanking has not been feeling well. A sudden loss of appetite with noticeable weight loss are quite concerning and could be due to a wide variety of conditions, including hyperthyroidism, kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, pancreatitis, among others. Parasites seem less likely for such a sudden change, but are certainly possible as well. Your best bet is to take Nanking to the vet for an exam and diagnostic testing so that the cause of her issues can be determined, as this will provide a more accurate prognosis for her condition.
