My cat is very sick and losing weight. Is it time to put her down?

Poor Molly! From what you're describing here, it sounds like she was extremely sick. In my experience, when a cat is not eating, feeling poorly, and not responding to supportive care for several days, the problem is generally not treatable and euthanasia is the kindest option. So yes, I think you made the right decision for your kitty. I'm very sorry for your loss.

I’m sorry to hear Molly isn’t feeling well. Making the decision to euthanize your pet is never easy. I recommend thinking about her quality of life. Is she able to do the important things like go out to go potty, eating, and drinking? Does she still enjoy the things she used to- playing with a toy, greeting you at the door, going for car rides? If you have more no’s than yes’s then her quality of life is not there. If you have done all the testing you can do to find the cause of her illness and you haven’t found something to make her more comfortable, it may be in her best interest to let her go. I'm sorry Murray isn't doing well!! Unfortunately with his symptoms cancer could be a likely diagnosis. Other causes could be a foreign body or intussecption (where the intestines telescope into themselves), but without seeing him in person I can't say for sure. Next step would be x-rays to try to visualize the intestines or an ultrasound. I recommend speaking to your vet about doing these tests.

I'm so sorry G is so sick. I work for an home euthanasia service, so I face these kinds of questions frequently with my clients. I would look at G's quality of life in make the decision as to when to euthanize him. If he's in pain, losing weight, having diarrhea, detached, and head pressing, his quality of life isn't very good. When a cat is in constant pain, they will be suffering daily, and in my opinion, that is when it is time to let them go peacefully. It's never easy to say goodbye to a beloved pet, and they are often ready to go before we are ready to let them go. I am very sorry that Toby is not feeling well. It is always hard to make that tough decision. I would recommend taking a hard look at his quality of life. I feel that a patient not being in pain, eating well, maintaining body weight and being happy is how I judge quality of life. I would be suspicious of something metabolic (like hyperthyroid disease) or cancerous with the weight loss and continued eating. I would take Kiki to your vet to be evaluated. There are a number of conditions that can cater weight loss in cats, but some are treatable. Your vet will likely want to check some blood work to try to figure out what's going on with him. In general though when they have fewer good days compared to bad days their quality of life may be declining.
