Why is my cat still scratching after diet changes and supplements?

I would recommend to wait up to 8 weeks before thinking about other causes. If not working, a skin scrape and more dermatological tests (including allergic testing on bloods) are required to determine if other causes are possible. If you have been through a strict novel protein diet trial with no improvement, a food allergy is unlikely. It is possible that Dandy Lion has an allergy to something in the environment or potentially something like thyroid disease. I would recommend making an appointment with your veterinarian to have her skin examined and to discuss treatment options. While the probiotic probably won't hurt, there is not evidence that probiotics help with skin diseases.

First you have to rule out other things as well like fleas and secondary infection which can both be itchy. If there are any lesions under the skin there may be a secondary infection (common with allergy). For food allergy it can take time for symptoms to resolve (8+ weeks for some dogs) and those pets who are very itchy may need medications to stop the itch (itching can lead to secondary skin infection as well). So if your pup is very itchy you may want to talk to your family vet about meds to help with itch while going back to the old food. And treat for fleas just in case (even if you do not see any). Without doing a physical examination on Shyannne it's difficult to say what it causing her to itch. Even if you are not seeing fleas, if she is not currently on a good quality flea preventative like Revolution you may want to start. You may want to try bathing with a soothing shampoo. Once a veterinarian checks her out they may prescribe a medicated shampoo. The Douxo line makes medicated shampoos and also mousses for animals that are more difficult to bathe. Omega-3s are naturally anti -inflammatory so these may help as well. If Shyanne's symptoms persist then she should be taken to your veterinarian. Her skin can be tested for mites and other types of infections. There are many treatments for allergies available as prescription medication. Due to her GI condition, I recommend to discuss any supplements or diet changes with her normal veterinarian to ensure these do not upset her condition. For pets in general, an omega 3 fatty acid supplement can help to improve coat health. There is also a diet line called Royal Canin that carries several different diet lines including diets specific for GI issues. In general this diet line contains supplements for coat health. Blu could be allergic to something in the environment or she might have an external parasite or autoimmune disease. You could recheck with your vet to see if there are other tests or treatments they might recommend or ask about referral to a veterinary dermatologist.
