Why does my cat only rub on me at home, especially after trips?

That is normal behavior. I think she is happy to be with you and inside and is rubbing her face on you and the wall as a comfort expression. Most cats like to be rubbed on the face, around the ears and under the chin so try that when she comes in and she'll probably start purring. Hi, it is difficult to tell for sure but normally when they are rubbing they release some pheromones and this is could be encouraged if you have any unfamiliar smells that perhaps you can't detect. For example if you have have been around other pets or people. One of my cats got crazy after I had my newborn, she would rub non stop and she also marked my leg when I was holding him ! I am not 100% sure why she would want to stay close to your head, perhaps a sense of security ? Are there any chances that Luna could be pregnant ?

Cats rub their heads on things as a way to mark with their scent or even pick up scents from things that they like. Your cat may just be showing affection or may enjoy shampoo or soap that you use in the shower and maybe picking up that sent by head bunting. This is likely an anxiety behavior. She is likely "pacifying" herself when you aren't home. You could try to get some feliway diffusers and spray and use that for when you are gone. Feliway is a cat pheromone that is used for calming. It doesn't work on all cats but it may help. If not, you can talk to your vet about starting her on a anti-anxiety medicine when you leave town. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cats have a scent gland on there lower lip. They rub your legs and furniture to mark it. It is a "happy" scent gland. But with out seeing what he was doing I would be careful for a while. I am hoping he was just marking the hamster. Have a good day!

I wouldn't say this is necessarily a common phenomenon but it is possible Jordan knows where he is and thinks of this home as his 'home territory' and is most comfortable here. Some cats are very territory oriented. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Is he on flea prevention? If not, fleas can cause over grooming and acting strangely. Every cat that goes outdoors no matter where you live should be on flea prevention. If you want him to stay inside more I suggest you make inside more inviting and comfortable for him. I recommend you put some Feliway diffusers in your house and do some environmental enrichment for him. Feliway is basically "happy cat" pheromones and makes them calm and reduces stress indoors.
