My cat ripped stitches, wound bleeding. Can it wait? What to do?

If it currently bleeding you can use some corn starch to help slow the bleeding. Also if you are able to place a light bandage on it to prevent him from licking it tonight that would be good. You can also use a cone collar which you can find at your local pet store if it is still open. I would take him to your vet first thing in the morning for an exam. He may need to have it cleaned, medicated and professionally wrapped. Your vet will also be able to provide antibiotics and pain meds if need. If it is profusely bleeding then I would take him to your local emergency clinic for attention tonight. I hope this helps!

I am so sorry Cotton got hurt. I would recommend bringing Cotton to an emergency veterinarian if there is one in your area. The wound needs to be clipped and cleaned out. It also may also need to be sutured. The veterinarian can also give Cotton pain medication and antibiotics. I would recommend getting an elizabethan collar so that Cotton cannot lick at the wound. The antiseptic wipes may sting so just some saline to clean it for now until you can get Cotton to a veterinarian. If you cannot go tonight I would recommend first thing in the morning. I just realized that it is after midnight where you are and by the time you get to the vet it will be around 3 am. If you can get Cosmic to a veterinarian first thing in the morning and the bleeding has stopped then he should be ok to see your vet in the morning. Poor Kitty. Try to apply gentle pressure to stop the bleeding. Put an Ecollar on her to keep her from licking it, as that can make it worse. You can make one at home or buy one at a pet store. Having her seen by a vet tomorrow is a good idea.

Just keep her quiet, and monitor it daily. If the incision comes apart, there is excessive bleeding, it appears infected, or that stitch falls out, have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps.

Please trim the fur so you can keep an eye on the wound and so the fur doesn't get stuck in it. Clean the area with hydrogen peroxide. I can't tell from the photo but if there is dirt in it you can flush the area with warm water. I wouldn't put anything topical on it if Truffles is licking the area. Using a restraint collar will stop the licking and then you could apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it, not deep into the wound. Keeping the area open and draining for a few days will prevent an abscess, a puss pocket under the skin. If Truffles stops eating or the area is very red and painful then he will need a veterinary exam and antibiotics. These wounds are not usually sutured as that traps in the infection. I am sorry this happened to your cat. This appears to be a very serious injury. Those are tendons showing. He should get antibiotics and this injury should be stitched up. If there is any way you can get him to a vet that is really the best option. I am not sure what products you have available for use in Brazil so I am not sure how to help you. I will try my best. If you can get Betadine solution I would make it into a dilution that looks like weak iced tea (light to medium brown). Do not use it straight. If the cat will let you I would soak that injury in that solution for 3-5 minutes a couple times per day. Discard the solution after each use and make a new solution. Do not re-use the same solution. If the cat won't let you soak the leg then you can just flush/wash the injury with that dilute solution. After that, dry the injury thoroughly, apply a thin layer of antibiotic ointment and then bandage it (not too tightly). Keep doing that until it is healed. It may take weeks. If you can keep him indoors during this time that would be best. Again, a vet visit is the best option in this case.
