What's a safe ringworm treatment for my cat with liver disease?

Clotrimazole (Lotrimin) can be tried, with or without the steroid. It is always recommended to apply a thin layer of the product on the skin and allowing it to air dry for 20-30 minutes. The product should not be allowed to be licked by your pet during the drying timeframe, and gloves should be worn when handling this medication. Use care when treating a large area, smaller areas of application are preferred. If no improvement is seen within 7-14 days then most pets require an oral anti-fungal prescription medication from their veterinarian.

The cream isn't harmful but I have never come across a topical medication that has been effective for treating ringworm in cats aside from prescription-based lime sulfur dips. The concern is that the Microsporum canis (fungal organism causing ringworm) is spread diffusely throughout a cat's entire hair coat, such that an isolated topical spray will not cover all surfaces of every hair, and lead to frequent recurrence. Since the topical treatment isn't working and Nova's spots are worse, I would go back to the vet to get an oral treatment. I hope that all goes well!

Poor kitty. Treatment for ringworm can certainly damage their relationship with their owners. Try to spend some time with her playing that doesn't involve treatments and medications to help your bond. There is not usually much of the fungus left after 4 lime dips, so I usually re-evaluate my patients at that time. After 4 weeks of treatment I would have Sierra re-examined by your vet to see if she is still infective. By this time she shouldn't be losing any more hair and you might even see some regrowth in her areas of hair loss.

Sorry to hear that you are having this issue. Ringworm can be very difficult to erradicate. Using the sulfur based shampoo is fine but you will not see an immediate effect. It takes weeks and sometimes months to get rid of ringworm. Do not use ethanol. I have never heard of using that and it would likely burn her skin. I am so sorry you having to deal with ringworm. It can be very frustrating to cure, because even cats that don't have symptoms can still harbor the fungus in their coats. Healthy adult cats will usually clear the fungus on their own with time, though it could take several months. You may talk to your vet about options, such as medical boarding, where Milo could be kept and treated so that you didn't have to chase him around the house. This will hopefully help clear the fungus sooner than later. Another option is to compound the oral medications into a cat treat that you may be able to feed to Milo, though you will have to watch him closely to make sure he eats it and not one of the other cats.

That is important in that it prevents the further growth of spores that can re-contaminate the environment. The environment can be a continuing source of spores, so you want to do everything you can to prevent that. Hello. You can try the immune support. I do not think it will help all that much, but it should not hurt. The best thing to do to keep a kitties immune system in great shape is to keep indoors, booster all appropriate vaccination, regularly apply of treat with a good flea & tick product, feed the best food you can afford , & deworm if necessary. As for the dip, mix 4 ounces, or 1/4 of a 16 ounce bottle, in 1 gallon of warm water. Bathe both of your kitties in any shampoo & rinse off soap. While each cat is still wet from rinsing , apply the diluted dip. Once you are done, you can wrap each cat in a towel, but do not let them lick themselves until completely dry so you may need to place an Elizabethan cone ( cone of shame ) on them.
