My cat's ringworm was diagnosed by stool test. Is dewormer correct?

I would like to clarify your question. Do you mean ringworm or roundworm? Ringworm is diagnosed with a hair sample and this is what I think you mean. Ringworm is a fungal infection that is spread by loose hair. Roundworm is an intestinal worm that is spread in the stool. Both of these can be spread to humans. If you do mean ringworm, environmental cleanup is possible. You will need to vacuum up all the hair and use a cleaning solution labeled to kill ringworm. You will need to wipe down everything. Ringworm is spread on loose hairs that floats in the air. This means the walls and ceiling as well. You should give the area several cleanings before letting the cats in the enclosure. The cats should not go in the enclosure until they are confirmed negative for ringworm. I hope this helps and best of luck.

From the picture these look to be tapeworm segments. Often you will see them dried on the rear end too. Pyrantel is a great broad spectrum dewormer, but it doesn’t kill tapeworm. Droncit ( praziquantel) kills tapeworm. I always recommend a full fecal exam looking for microscopic eggs as animals who have parasites often have more than one kind. Poor Fupal! This looks like an extensive bacterial or fungal infection but not necessarily ringworm. You would need some hair for a culture called a DTM to diagnose ringworm. Since it is such a large area affected, I would have your vet take a look at it. Your vet will be able to start him on the proper meds and even take a biopsy or hair samples if needed to help determine the cause. I hope this helps!

It is very common for scabs/debris around the site to glow a bit under the lamp. A positive result would be fluorescent hairs from a metabolite the fungus secretes on to the hairs. Unfortunately only half of the strains of the most common cause of ringworm will glow however. A DTM medium fungal culture is a good way to diagnose ringworm but false negatives are always possible with any test. DTM medium is nice because it contains a color indicator as well. If the index of suspicion is high for ringworm another culture could be performed making sure to pluck hairs from many different sites. It is also possible that this is not ringworm but some other skin related issue of which there are many (secondary infections (bacteria, yeast), allergy (food, hypersensitivity), etc. I hope his helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

The treatment is with an oral antifungal, it's not recommended if your kitten is asymptomatic as this medication can have severe side effects. The medication is prescription only and can be given only by your vet, in this specific case I do not believe any vet would recommend this treatment though.

It certainly is possible that Stiletto has ringworm. I would take her into the vet, who can use a Wood's lamp and fungal culture to diagnose if she does have ringworm. Should she have it, the vet can prescribe an antifungal treatment for it. Your other cat will have to be treated for it, as it's highly contagious, and keep an eye on yourself to make sure you don't have ringworm lesions as well because it's contagious to humans. Unfortunately, I would be in the same boat as your and Saphira. Without know the type of worm that only thing I could tell you to do is to just throw the whole kitchen sink at her. That is not likely to be the most responsible or appropriate thing to do. I would recommend having her feces taken into a vet for analysis under a microscope. They will tell you if they are roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, tapeworms, coccidia, so on and so forth, and get you and your kitty back on track. They will also be able to tell you if repeated treatments are likely to be required. Hope this helps.
