My cat is retching like something's stuck. Is a 2-day wait too long?

If the odd behavior/hacking has stopped then I would not be too concerned. However, if the behavior is continuing then I would recommend taking Milo back in for a recheck, ensuring that the doctor looks into the mouth. It is pretty difficult to look inside a car’s mouth but sometimes a quick peek is all you need. And unless the grass is so large it is blocking the airway it would not be life threatening. If he really does have something stuck in his esophagus it can be very dangerous and can damage the esophagus. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. They will likely recommend an x-ray to see where/ what it is to be able to help make a plan. As long as he is eating normally there is no reason to panic, this is actually common in cats, they retch violently for a minute or so and then everything comes back to normal, often the reason for that is unclear. keep an eye on him, if this continues happening several times a day take him to your vet to get it checked.

You are right to be concerned about an obstruction in the GI tract. It sounds as though Avalon may have eaten something she shouldn't have since you saw foreign material in the vomitus. The only way to know for sure is to take Avalon to your veterinarian for examination and probably they will recommend x-rays of the abdomen to look for signs of an obstruction. Since she is acting normal now, you can consider withholding food and water for the next 8-10 hours, if there is anymore vomiting during this time she should be seen. If no further vomiting, then start offering a small amount of water, if no vomiting overnight, then offer a small amount of food in the morning. If no further vomiting after several more hours then return to normal feeding routine.

Hi there. Poor Mittens! Unfortunately with her history I would highly recommend having her seen as soon as possible-she could be blocked (it actually sounds like she is). It is possible she could pass it with laxatives and iv fluids without surgery (your vet would have to do x rays to determine this). I would recommend taking him in tomorrow just for a checkup since it sounds like that is a possibility. They may take an x-ray to make sure nothing looks abnormal. he could just be nauseous from eating something weird (the bird), but anytime there's gagging I think a checkup is warranted

Margo could have something lodged in her throat or this could be a sign of nausea. As long as she is eating and not vomiting I think it’s probably okay to wait until Monday. If she has any other symptoms or seems to be getting worse you should see your vet sooner.
