My cat keeps reopening his nose wound despite the cone. Help!

It could have been a scab forming over Josephine's wound, but it is concerning that the wound is now larger than before. She could have been rubbing at her nose causing it to fall off. I'd have her seen by a vet for this problem. If she is rubbing at the wound and interrupting the healing process, it could easily become infected. The vet may decide to give her antibiotics to prevent any infection, and can treat the wound. I recommend bringing her into a vet tomorrow. Put an Ecollar on her tonight in case she is rubbing at it, and keep her as quiet as possible. Difficult I know with a kitten! I will put a link below on how to make an Ecollar at home. Thank you for including the picture, it is helpful. I had a situation in a patient like Bongo that I found a tooth in (likely from a fight with another cat). But an object festering could be the cause of a non-healing wound. Also there is the potential of a growth. Less likely because he is so young, but still possible. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian soon. It is small enough that they may just recommend removing it all together and sending it out for a biopsy. That is a pretty large wound! That being said though, it looks like it is healing fine. It does not appear swollen or to have discharge coming from it. The tissue looks healthy. Having it stitched when it first happened which would have allowed it to heal faster. I am not sure how long it's been but a wound that size would take weeks to heal without stitches. If I were you I would keep applying a topical antibiotic cream and just leave it be. Stop using the Betadine. If he is licking it you must stop that behavior by using an Elizabethan collar (cone). As long as he keeps licking it will not heal. If you want it to heal faster you need to take him to a vet to have it stitched. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

I'd recommend getting an Elizabethan Collar (aka "The Cone of Shame") and then apply some triple antibiotic on the area twice daily. Keep using the Cone until the area has healed. You can get Elizabethan collars at your vet and some pet stores. Good luck!

Best would be if you could take Snowball to your vet for an exam. Without seeing even a photo of the lesion and how deep it is I am afraid I cannot tell you whether it will heal by itself. He may need some antibiotics to help it heal.

If it is getting worse with conservative treatment, then it is time to have Pluto physically examined by your veterinarian. The wound may need to be debrided (have dead tissue removed) so that healing can occur. It may need sutures and a drain depen7on severity. Systemic antibiotics may also be needed. Place an e-collar (cone) on him to prevent licking until he sees the doctor. Given current events, you may need to drop him off at the clinic then wait for your veterinarian to call you to discuss exam findings and treatment options.
