My cat has a red, sticky eye with discharge. Does it need a vet?

It looks like Kuon has an eye infection. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do for him at home other than keeping the eye clean and wiping away any discharge. You will need to get antibiotic ointment from a veterinarian to help your kitten get better. There is no other way to get an antibiotic.

This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. It sounds as Pascal is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in cats. you will need to take him to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.

Cats often are infected with herpesvirus as kittens, and it can come and go throughout their lives, but often it flares up during times of stress (such as adding a new kitten). They can also get secondary bacterial infections in the eyes and upper respiratory infections. If it's not improving on its own or he starts squinting or pawing at his eye he may need antibiotic drops from your vet.

Young kittens often get conjunctivitis. It's not pink eye (meaning it's not contagious to you), but it may require medication from your veterinarian for clinical signs to resolve.
