What's this red, angry skin lesion on my cat? Is it ringworm?

Hello. Without an actual hands on diagnosis, it is difficult to tell exactly what this is, but it does resemble a condition call eosinophilic plaques. If this is what you are dealing with, the condition is frequently associated with underlying allergic disease & tend to respond very quickly to glucocorticoids. The allergies can be to fleas, food, something in the environment & even other insect hypersensitivities like to mosquitoes. The cornerstone to therapy is trying to identify & manage the underlying cause(s). If this is done, the prognosis is excellent for a very manageable condition. Leo's skin could look like that for any of the reasons you listed and add skin mites to the list as well. The problem with skin conditions is that they all clinically look the same. Diagnostics or sometimes a response to treatment is the only way to know what is the underlying condition. For a young cat like Leo, fleas, skin mites or ringworm is more common but allergic reactions are not impossible. That lesion on his head looks pretty inflamed. if you don't see any obvious cause like fleas, I recommend to have him examined by his veterinarian. The veterinarian who will look for other clues on the physical exam to get a better idea what the underlying cause is. Ringworm and mites can be ruled out with some simple diagnostics and he can receive medication to heal the lesions. You may start an omega 3 fatty acid for cats as this can help with inflammation and skin health but it may not fix the problem. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Sylvestor's skin lesion looks quite inflamed and could be due to a skin infection from underlying allergies, ringworm or mange. I recommend taking him to the vet to rule out ringworm and mange, as these can be transmitted to people or other animals. If these issues are ruled out, Sylvestor may need topical or oral antibiotics to manage a skin infection, likely caused by allergies. Allergies in animals often occur to fleas (even one flea bite can cause issues in sensitive animals!), food or the surrounding environment, which then cause an animal to itch and develop a skin infection from itching. The vet will be able to prescribe appropriate medication to clear up this issue before it worsens. I hope that all goes well!

Hello, sorry to hear about your cat. Those do not definitely look like your typical ringworm lesions. They look like your cat has been scratching at them often and likely developed a hot-spot from this. It can be associated with allergies or fleas and will require some medications to control the itchiness and local infection. Finally, your veterinarian may opt to obtain a hair culture to completely rule out the possibility of ringworm. Hope this helps and best of luck.

This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal infection). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics/antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching. This could also be just a focal skin bacterial infection or traumatic lesions, among other possibilities. I recommend that you have Simsim evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and treat accordingly. Ringworm can be transmitted to humans so just in case this is what is going with Simsim wear gloves when handling these lesions. Good luck and best wishes!
