My cat's nose and paws are red and hot after moving. Is it stress?

If Cali is behaving normally otherwise, you can try using an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent scratching or rubbing. This may allow time for healing. Also, check her over for fleas or flea dirt. If she is sensitive, just one flea bite could make her very itchy. A pheromonal product, such as Feliway spray or diffuser, may decrease any stress or anxiety due to your new addition (Congratulations, by the way!). Keep the Ivy out of reach if possible. While not high on the toxicity scale, ingestion or chewing of a leaf or two may cause irritation in and around the mouth and/or GI upset. Monitor for worsening of symptoms, squinting of the eye(s) or discharge. See your veterinarian for a physical exam to address non healing or additional symptoms.

It could be just mild nasal irritation. It coukd also be due to environmental factors like dust. Rarely we can see certain slow rising disease of cats such as nasal tumors. However we usually see discharge like mucus or blood. If you ever see a discharge, your cats attitude changes or the sneezing increases in its frequency I would consider having your veterinarian do an exam.

While having a dry nose may not necessarily mean anything significant, the nose being warmer than usual may indicate an elevated body temperature or fever. If Puma continues to have a very warm nose or is also experiencing other changes such as decreased appetite, lethargy, or is experiencing any of the above signs of an upper respiratory infection I indicated, you may want to take Puma into see his veterinarian for an exam and evaluation.

Hi there! You are absolutely right, stress could be a reason for the sneezing and diarrhea. For example, the feline herpes virus manifests as an URI and is exacerbated by stress, it should also be noted that it is quite contagious among cats. Hopefully, the foster cat was UTD on vaccines; however, there is not vaccination for herpes (which usually manifests as eye and nasal discharge, etc). It is also possible that there is just something in the environment that is irritating, particularly if you have used new airfreshner, litter, etc. Having Dahlia (lovely name) examined by her veterinarian is best, but since she seems to be doing fine otherwise I think it is fair to continue montioring her for a couple more days. If her symptoms gets worse or new symptoms are noticed she should be evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. I would also keep her separated from other cats for now. Pale nose and ears in a cat can be a sign of anemia (low red blood cell count), shock, or dehydration. The pale color happens because of poor circulation to the extremeties, which can be caused by any of the conditions I mentioned. If possible, I would recommend having your kitty examined by a vet since some of these issues can be serious - your vet can do some basic blood work to help determine what's wrong.

It's possible it could be a bit irritated due to the weather change or rubbing up against something. It's hard to tell from the photos if that is discharge/debris in the nostril, but if you are seeing any discharge, sneezing, coughing, etc it could indicate a respiratory infection as well that should be seen by your vet. Otherwise, monitoring it for any changes and keeping your cat from pawing at or scratching at it may help it to heal.

A cat's nose being warm and dry isn't used as a sign of illness because their nose can go from wet and cold to warm and dry just by laying in the sun or next to a heat source. Molly's ears being warm could indicate a fever, but if she was laying near the heat, that could also be the cause of it. Given that she is eating, I would monitor her for now. If she stops eating, becomes very lethargic, or develops other signs such as vomiting and diarrhea, then I would be concerned and have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
