My cat has a full-body rash, chews it, and is losing weight. Help!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Lilly! I would have Lilly rechecked. At a bare minimum she needs medications (prednisolone taper) to relieve the itching. I would request that a skin scrape be performed to rule out skin mites. They are microscopic and need to be looked at under a microscope. I would also culture the area for ringworm. She may have allergies and I would suggest trying to change her diet first. Chicken is the number one allergic protein so try to change her to all venison or salmon diet. You will need to give the diet 2-3 months to see if it works. If mites, ringworm and food allergies have been rule out then I would consider it behavioral and start her on prozac. Ouch! That spot looks very irritated. I would have a vet examine Chewy to rule out issues such as fungal infections, allergies, wounds, parasites, metabolic issues, etc that could all be causing what you are seeing, as that is a very large irritated area. Until you can get to the vet, keeping an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Chewie to keep her from scratching can help reduce irritation and the chances of secondary infections.

It is likely to be flea allergy dermatitis, so ideally the cat should also be treated for fleas with a good spot on product that is licensed for cats. Mia Rubi's chin looks like it definitely bothers her. I would actually recommend antibiotics to help with the infection. I would also recommend getting an elizabethan collar so she cannot scratch at her chin until it heals. I would definitely get a recheck with your veterinarian and see if they will treat Mia Rubi with oral medication. Her chin is getting worse from Mia Rubi scratching and rubbing it. It sounds as if your cat has a skin infection, most commonly caused by an allergy or fleas. The allergy could be a due to a protein in Muffin's food or an environmental allergy like to dust, pollens, grasses, etc. The allergy causes your cat to itch and chew at the skin which breaks down the skin barrier. This then leads to infection. Muffin will need antibiotics to help clear up the infection and possibly an anti-itch medication like steroids to give some relief while the infection clears up. A medicated shampoo may be beneficial as well. I would also recommend she be on a good flea control too. I can totally understand it may be hard to catch Myffin. But hopefully you can get her into the vet one time and everything will be able to be given injectably and she will be able to get cleared up. I hope this helps. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Poor Molly, that looks uncomfortable. Molly may be having some type of allergic reaction that has become infected. Make sure you are using a good flea product, not just a cheap one from WalMart. If Molly will let you, you can try bathing her in a medicated shampoo that has Benzoyl Peroxide. If not, please have her seen by your veterinarian. She may need to be treated with a steroid injection &/or antibiotics to clear this up, or to get to the source of the irritation. Take care.
