My cat has a purple-red lump on his side near his leg. Is it serious?

My cat was outside yesterday and came back last night with a knot/lump on his side by his front left leg it looks to be purple and red should i be concerned????

This could be a bruise (hematoma) or a developing abscess. Your kitty could have gotten into a fight with another cat. I would observe it. It it starts hurting your cat or is fluctuating, or if your kitty is getting lethargic or stops eating he needs to be seen by a veterinarian for an exam.
