My cat shows pulmonary edema signs. Are natural treatments safe?

Although pulmonary fibrosis can happen in cats it is not as common as some other conditions and is very difficult to diagnose. There is no xray change that is specific for it and there is much overlap with other disease processes based on symptoms and xray findings. Ultimately it is a diagnosis from lung biopsy which is not typically performed due to the risk. It would also be quite unusual in such a young cat. Are you sure they don't mean feline asthma? If your cat is breathing well with intermittent symptoms this is likely not fibrosis. Unfortunately this site can not be used to provide a diagnosis as that would be illegal without an exam. But, what i would recommend is having good quality chest xrays sent to a radiologist for review. There needs to be 3 views taken and a diagnosis of anything should not be based on 1 image and should also take in to account the symptoms of the pet. Hello, sorry to hear about Meef. It sounds like she may be in congestive heart failure and thats why your veterinarian gave you those medications. The aspirin and furosemide may interact with one delay the excretion of these medications from the body. This can make the side effects of the medications most likely to occur. The biggest one we worry about is damage to her kidneys. If I were to pick one medication over another, I would give the furosemide as that will get her out of congestive heart failure, however the aspirin is also necessary. There are other medications that your can talk to your veterinarian about such as clopidogrel which will have the same effect as aspirin on the platelets and will not interact with furosemide. Ideally, depending on how severe her signs may be, Meef should be hospitalize to monitor her heart condition and fluids in her lungs. Monitor her respiratory rate. If you notice her breathing to be fast or labored, or if she has open mouthed breathing, you should bring Meef to the emergency clinic immediately. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Prognosis for pulmonary edema secondary to electrocution is extremely guarded. We often try diuretics (which is what I assume they have put Nova on) but it's not very effective at removing fluid from the lungs when it accumulates due to electrocution injury. Honestly, the most helpful therapy is to provide supplemental oxygen while the injury heals. This should be done in the least stressful manner possible, preferably in an oxygen cage in the hospital where supplemental oxygen can be blown into the cage to increase the relative oxygen content of the air there. The most common cause of fluid in the lungs of older cats is cancer. Certainly other problems can cause it as well, but many of those problems would be ruled out with normal lab work. You can consider having the fluid drained as much as possible, and sometimes starting a diuretic such as lasix can decrease its formation, but neither of trise solve the problem. However, if you get fluid you may be able To get a diagnosis from the fluid. However, I do worry that it is likely a very guarded prognosis regardless of the cause. I’m so sorry Nibbs is so sick. Poor Jeeves. Breathing out of the mouth is not normal for cats, and it can indicate respiratory distress.
