Why is my cat suddenly pooping while walking? Is it a health issue?

Issues with faeces such as these can be indicative of issues in the gut. It could just be inflammation such as gastroenteritis or colitis, but sometimes it can indicate problems such as inflammatory bowel disease or tumours etc. You could try adding a probiotic to both of their feed and see if that helps, but I think it would be worth taking them both to the vet for an exam if it continues for more than a day or so.

Sometimes when cats are relaxed, they can drop little balls of feces out that are in their rectum. It does happen, and given that Mochi has been checked out by a vet and they found nothing wrong with him, that would be my suspicion.

If his stools are appearing softer in the litter box, the underlying cause could be from a recent diet change, bacterial infection, parasites, or food allergies. The best first step is to visit the veterinarian, who can test a stool sample for parasites, and suggest the best diet option. Often a diet for sensitive stomachs is the first recommendation. It could be that the box is too small for Remmy and that's why he isn't pooping in the box. He's moving to get more space, and the poop falls out as he does. It could also be that he has some arthritis making it painful for him to squat to poop. He sounds like a big cat, and is he's a bit too heavy, that can cause pain in his joints. Give his vet a call to make him an appointment to discuss this behavior. It may be he needs to lose some weight, and you need to get a bigger litter box. I hope this helps!

Poor Coal! It sounds like he is having a little bit of fecal incontinence. I would have your vet take a look at his feces to make sure he doesn't have any type of parasite or bacterial infection. These can sometimes cause an increase in frequency and even sometimes a little softer stool than normal making it difficult for him to hold it in. If everything there is normal, then I would have your vet check him for any neurological problems. Your vet will be able to see if he needs any treatment for that or if any medicines can be added to help him out. I hope this helps!

It could be that Ziggy has some fecal matter that sticks to the hair around his anus after he defecates that later falls off - this can sometimes happen in overweight cats (I'm guessing Ziggy might be overweight if he is an 18 lb American Shorthair). Fecal incontinence can sometimes also occur secondary to neurologic problems. Constipation could be another issue - sometimes a constipated cat will pass small amounts of stool but is unable to completely empty the colon. I would recommend having your vet examined Ziggy to rule out incontinence or constipation issues.
