My healthy cat died from poisoning. Could FIV have been the cause?

I am sorry to hear about your cat. I’m not sure that the mouth being full of dirt is related to FIV. FIV can cause immune suppression and make cats more susceptible to opportunistic infections. It is also notorious for allowing certain types of cancer to form. You do have an option to have an autopsy done on your cat if you wish to learn the exact cause of death. I am so sorry your cat died recently, please accept my condolences for your loss. The massive wounds may have been the cause of his death. He could have had internal injures you weren't aware of it, and that could have lead to him vomiting food and then blood. Unfortunately, without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what caused his death. I recommend having a necropsy (an autopsy for animals) done on him, which may give you some answers as to what caused his death. Again, I'm so sorry for your loss :-(

There are three very common diseases that cats get that can cause his symptoms: diabetes, kidney failure and hyperthyroidism. If left untreated, all can cause death. I doubt a virus has much to do with it but of course it is possible. As for the vitamins, if they were made for cats that is not likely the cause. If it was not cat vitamins then it is possible he was overdosed. Not all vitamins are safe in large doses. I am sorry this happened and that he passed. In the future please get your cat examined by a veterinarian before the disease has progressed to this point. When they start losing weight that should be a good indicator that something is wrong especially if they are not eating and lethargic as well. Best wishes.

I'm so sorry this happened. Unfortunately there is no way for us to tell you why she died by looking at some photos. If you want to know for sure you will need to have a vet do an autopsy. If this way a young cat the two most common reasons for sudden death are trauma (like hit by a car) or poison ingestion.

Hello. FIV is a very serious disease that is often fatal. We sometimes will aspirate the effusions , but for the most part it is a very uncomfortable process that is very temporary at best. The effusions come back very quickly. You did nothing wrong. You cared for your friend until the very end, but the virus was just too overwhelming for his system. My condolences to your friend on the loss of his or her cat. Unfortunately, without a post mortem exam it can be very difficult to determine cause of death. If he as vaccinated against rabies, it was likely not a cause. The only way to find out would be to submit brain tissue for testing. This must be done according to strict Health Department guidelines. A more likely cause was trauma, toxicity or heart disease.
