My cat has a pink, wet, swollen spot. Is it a wound or infection?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. Based on the photos, it appears that Girly may have a severely infected hot spot. This could have happened from moisture becoming trapped on the fur, allergies, a wound, etc. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Girly so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. This needs to have the hair completely clipped from the area, antiseptically cleaned and an oral antibiotic most likely. I hope this helps! I'm not sure that's a hot spot. That looks more like an abscess, a ruptured cyst or perhaps and infected laceration. I recommend to have Stripes examined by the veterinarian. She may need an antibiotic. She should wear an elizabethan collar at all times to prevent any licking which could make the lesion worse. A visit to the veterinarian and getting medication will assure the most complete and fastest healing process. If she cannot get to a veterinarian, please post again with the photo of the wound and a photo of the back of the hot spot spray so one of us can see the ingredients. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! What you have taken a picture of on Ms. Kitty appears to be an area that is infected. What it is infected with I am unable to determine based on the pictures. However, that being said, I would recommend treating this by first shaving the hair away from the area and cleansing it with a mixture of betadine and water mixed to give a 50:50 dilution or until you get a light brown solution. You can use this to keep the area clean. I would recommend starting a spray such as Malacetic conditioning spray and spray to the affected area 2-3 times per day until resolved. If there is no improvement or it worsens, I would recommend having this examined by a veterinarian as Ms. Kitty may need a course of an antibiotic and additional topical medications. Ouch poor Ki! This looks like it could have started out as a small wound, bite, or scratch but eventually turned into an abscess which is why it is so much bigger now. Since it is getting worse and she is bothered by it, I️ would take her to your vet. She is likely going to need some medical care to clean it up and make sure she doesn’t need stitches. Also your vet will be able to provide her with some systemic antibiotics as I don’t believe that ointment is strong enough. I hope this helps!

Hi there. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Sorry Cookie is having this issue. She really needs to be seen by your vet as soon as possible. That is a tumor but it is very difficult to tell exactly what type it is with just a photo. My best initial guess would be a benign histiocytoma but again, there is no way for me to know this for sure. I suggest you get her to your vet for an exam. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

It doesn't look that serious so I think you could just monitor Rey for 5-7 days. If the spot does not start looking better then you will need to take Rey to the vet as oral medication would be needed as treatment (like a liquid antibiotic). Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hi and thanks for posting. From the pictures, the area looks red and infected. I would advise Khora be taken to a veterinarian so they can clean the wound thoroughly and give Khora a course of antibiotics. In the mean time, you can keep the area clean with a mild cleansing cloth or 3% hydrogen peroxide a few times daily, but I would highly recommend seeing a veterinarian.
