My stray cat is peeing blood after giving birth. What should I do?

That's very kind of you to take in this stray cat! This peeing on the bed can be a sign of a medical illness, such as a UTI or bladder stone. I would recommend taking your girl into your vet tomorrow for an exam. Your vet can do routine blood tests and a urinalysis to see if she does have a UTI or bladder stones. If she has a UTI, she will need antibiotics to treat it. Bladder stones may need to be removed surgically, or can be managed with diet.

Please take her to a Pet ER for an exam, urinalysis and prescription pain medicine if needed. It is rare for cats to have an actual infection (UTI), however cats often get a stress induced inflammatory reaction of the bladder which is quite painful and has the same signs as a UTI. Please do not give her any medication designated for humans. Cats often cannot metabolize human medications properly. Best take her to a Pet ER now. If you call your vet's office, there will be information on the nearest emergency veterinary service on the answering machine.

Please take her to your nearest vet if labour does not progress within the next hour. What she has passed may be a deformed kitten but now that she has started the rest of the litter must follow or she is at severe risk of infection

Have her seen by your veterinarian. You can request conservative treatment and your veterinarian may prescribe a broad spectrum antibiotic for a presumed urinary tract infection without performing recommended diagnostics (urine culture, urinalysis, abdominal xrays, blood work). It may help, however the risk is that the bloody urine may not be caused by "simple" infection. Other possibilities are inflammation, tumor or stones. If Luna should become completely obstructed, this will turn into an emergency and potentially life threatening condition.

There is a chance that there was some trauma to the bladder area while removing the uterus which is located just above the cervix. Some light bleeding can be expected to occur for 1-3 days after surgery but copious amounts of blood or prolonged bleeding should be considered abnormal. I would recommend either taking your cat back to the previous veterinarian, since he/she did the surgery, for a follow-up visit for further care. Or if the trust has been broken with this vet, you can get kitty seen with another expert for an exam and potential urinalysis to ensure there isn't a UTI present that could explain the symptoms that mentioned. As long as there is an active flow of urine and no outward signs of illness (vomiting, diarrhea, bloated abdomen) then this sounds like a relatively non-emergency type situation that can be hopefully be resolved with medical treatment, if any.

It could be a UTI, which would need antibiotics. Other possible causes include urinary bladder stones or congenital changes with the bladder or urethra. Since I am not sure exactly what is going on, I can't really tell you what to do. If you have access to antibiotics, you can try that, but we can't prescribe them online as it is illegal for us to do so.

It is usually related to bacterial infection of the bladder but it may be due to bladder crystals or stress. Please, take her to your local vets for an appointment, as most likely she will need a course of antibiotics to get better.
