My cat's paw pads are crusty & pink. Should I stop using coconut oil?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! For dry pads you can use a moisturizing cream such as the one made by Tomlyn which you get from amazon. It works great for this scenario. It is hard to know if this is truly needed without being able to see it and examine it though this is usually a good option in most cases. Good luck!

Adding oils can help some pets with dry skin, but it can take 6-8 weeks to take effect, and in my opinion it doesn't make a very big difference. Omega 3 oils would be best to try. The biggest side effect is greasy or loose stools. Dry or cracked paws could be caused by excessive licking, or it could happen with allergies or autoimmune disease. I would recommend having Pavi checked out by the vet to see if this may be the case.

I would gently clean it off Snow's face with a soft cloth and cool water. Coconut oil won't remove tear stains, I recommend get a tear stain removing product from a pet store to clean them up. Best of luck.

Vaseline is safe to use but if you want something more natural then the ResQ skin treatment is all natural and would be fine to use to apply to the paw pads until resolved. If the paw pads begin to look swollen or show any signs of infection (pus, etc.) then I would recommend having Snowball examined by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Ideally a cat's paw pads should be smooth. If they are cracked, it could be because they were exposed to harsher conditions (which I would expect if Toothless was outside for 4 weeks). Paw pads should return to being smooth with better conditions and a good diet. If the cracked areas are bleeding, Toothless is licking them, they are swollen or he is limping on them, then I would recommend having your veterinarian examine him.
