My cat passed electrical wire with blood. Should I call the vet?

Often when there is foreign material in the GI tract motility will slow down so I would not be surprised that she has not passed more stool. The blood is likely due to irritation of the colon wall from the foil. I don't know what medication you are giving her so I am unsure what to tell you about how long it will take for her to produce any stool. If she is eating and drinking and acting normally I would not be overly concerned at this stage. Just keep in contact with your veterinarian as to how she is doing and if you and/or your veterinarian are concerned then take her back in for a follow-up exam. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

If he is acting completely normal then I would actually recommend monitoring this for now. This could be an isolated incident where there was mild irritation of his intestines. If it repeats itself then most definitely get him checked out. But there is a chance that things will go back to normal on their own.

Keep an eye on Mia for now. If the blood continues in her stool, or she develops other signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, or lethargy, I would have her seen by a vet right away. I hope this helps!

It is possible that this was causing her an obstruction and now she has thrown it up and defecated some of it and has thankfully relieved her obstruction. That is good as surgery is needed in most cases as they are not able to pass it or throw it up on their own. You can continue to monitor her for signs of an on-going obstruction such as vomiting, abdominal pain, inappetence or lethargy and if observed, have her examined then as soon as possible as that may represent an emergency. Otherwise, if she is back to her normal self and no more symptoms show, she may be ok. Good luck!

If he is eating, acting normal, not vomiting and does not have more bleeding, then he can be seen Monday. Otherwise, he will need to see an emergency veterinarian this weekend. The bleeding can be the result of intestinal parasites, an anal gland problem, a wound near his anus or having passed a firm dry bowel movement. You should check his litterbox for any diarrhea or hard stool. I hope this information helps!

Luckily is was only a short piece of fringe. Usually when cats eat strings and yarn that cause intestinal perforations the length is longer than two inches. If there is a medical problem she will become painful, stop eating and may not poop regularly. She should be out of the woods in another day or two. I would be very concerned that Pancho could have severe intestinal issues associated with the ingested thread. I am so glad you cut the thread and did not pull, as pulling can cause a lot of damage internally. Unfortuately, there is nothing that I can recommend for his current symptoms, since they may be related to the thread. This should be addressed by a veterinarian. Watch for other symptoms such as lethargy, poor appetite, bloating, panting, or increased respiratory rate. The pooping outside the litterbox may be related to the pain that Pancho is feeling when he has a bowel movement. Cats will sometimes think that pain associated with going potty is caused by the box and will decide to stop using the box. You can try to put a second box in a separate area to see if he will start using that. You can also try supplements for stress like Zylkene or Comfort Zone Feliway Pheromones.
