My cat has a painful lump on her neck and is sleeping a lot. Help!

It could be Jade has a dental problem such as a tooth root abscess causing this lump . You need to take her into a vet right away. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. It could be an abscess, it could be a cyst, it could be a lymph node swelling due to infection, or it could be related to a dental problem. That can indicate an infection or a dental problem. Other possibilities include a cyst, an abscess, a lipoma, or a benign growth. A huge lump on his neck could be an abscess, a blicked salivary duct, inflamed or infected salivary gland, a cyst, a tumor, or a swollen lymph node. This needs to be examined by your veterinarian who will likely want to take a bit of tissue or check if and what kind of fluid is in the lump. He will do this with a very thin needle (painless) to determine what kind of mass or lump there is. Not eating is dangerous for a cat as this can cause liver disease in cats in addition to the original cause. Please take your kitty to a veterinarian for an exam today.

I am concerned that Trixie is sleeping more than usual, and it could be that the lump has made her ill. If she has a scab over this lump, I would be wondering if she had an abscess. An abscess is a localized pocket of infection, and it can make her systemically ill. I do think it's important that she sees a vet, and I would take her into one this weekend. I hope this helps.

Poor cat! If the wound is growing in size, it's time to go to your vet. Problems such as allergies to parasite bites, fungal infections such as ringworm, infections of the skin, abscesses/sores etc can all be potential causes which is why a vet visit is needed to determine the cause, provide treatment such as pain meds and antibiotics, etc. Until you can get to your vet, keeping the area clean and dry may help as well as preventing your cat from licking, but if he is acting ill and hiding away he is likely already painful or worsening so needs care.

I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
