Why is my spayed cat not walking after surgery? Is it normal?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | spayed | 8 months and 14 days old | 6.83 lbs

Its been 6 and half hours past her recovery injection after getting spayed but she is not able to walk. She is not even able to stand on her hind legs, she is trying but then ends up in dragging them. She is able to move her fore legs and head but has a tremor in her head. I wont be able to call vet till morning which is 4 more hours to go. Please suggest some tips or remedies

I would not worry too much at this point. Zoii has just undergone major surgery and it can take up to 48 hours for her to fully recover. She is probably still processing some of the anesthesia that is in her system. She also was probably very stressed and did not get much rest while at the vet so she is making up for that now.

Just keep an eye on her tonight and if you are still not comfortable with how she is acting in the morning you can take her in for a recheck. My guess is that she was just more sensitive to the drugs used and it is taking her a bit more time to recover than some cats.

I hope this helps. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Best of luck.
