My cat doesn't purr, is he unhappy? Why is he losing so much hair?

Hello. There could be a couple of things going on with Harry. Cats can lose hair around the base of their tail when they are allergic to something, when they have suffered an injury to that area, or when their anal glands are impacted. It does sound like he's uncomfortable, and any of these conditions can cause discomfort. I would monitor and if this continues take him into your vet. They can check the area and find out the cause. It is normal to have a small area of thin hair in front of the ears, such as what you're seeing in Brownie, so that is not a concern as long as Brownie isn't acting abnormal by scratching excessively at the ears or showing other signs of discomfort. His hair otherwise looks nice and thick in the photos so I suspect he has normal shedding, which you can help control with regular brushing. However, if there are patches of distinct hair loss, or if he seems itchy, then you should have a vet take a look to make sure he doesn't have a skin condition requiring medication. Hope this helps.

Hello, sorry to hear about Levon. This non-specific hair loss could be associated with different conditions. Most commonly, contact allergies from environmental allergies (dust mites, skin dander, detergents, grasses, heat) may cause this. Other causes could include anxiety and excessive grooming. External parasites or skin infections that could also cause constant itching, and finally, any metabolic endocrine diseases (diabetes and hyperthyroidism) may cause this. Less likely a hair disorder like becoming bald but he should not have had hair re-growth after his first incident. Oral supplements like essential fatty oils will help keep his hair shiny but may not promote his hair growth. If his hair loss progresses or continues, then he should be seen by his veterinarian to further discern between the different causes of hair loss. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Sometimes a cat's personality will change with time, especially once they start to reach maturity. This isn't necessarily a reflection of something you did. If it has been a drastic behavior change and he is also hiding or not spending time in his usual spots around the house you may want to have your vet examine him since this could be a sign of a medical problem.

This is perfectly normal. Some cats have a tiny quiet purr, others a very loud purr, and others again actually open their mouth a little to purr loudly. The louder your kitty purrs the happier it is. Hairballs usually cause a cough. Sounds like you have a very happy kitty.

(They May not do it every year and the first one is often at 2-4 years of age). Brush her throughly every day for the next week or two. The little black dots are comedowns (basically blackheads) and are usually not concerning either. Hi there. A couple things could be going on with Lucky. Some cats lose hair due to stress and this is usually self resolving. More commonly cats lose hair due to an allergy. This could be to their food or something in the environment. I would start by having your vet check her and then do a hypoallergenic food trial for 8 weeks.
