My cat isn't eating or pooping 2 days after blockage surgery?

Poor Sasha! It's not normal she still isn't eating well nor had a bowel movement. I would take her into a vet right away, this could be a sign she may be suffering from a surgical complication. She should be examined by a vet now.

It is common for dogs and cats not to pass stool for several days after these types of surgeries - probably due to the drugs used during anesthesia and the lack of food intake before and after the surgery. I usually don't get concerned until 5 days have passed as long as the cat is eating normally, is not vomiting, and is not straining or attempting to defecate. I bet Jones will go in the next couple of days!

If she does not seem to be troubled by it I would not be overly concerned. It is best to feed canned food (pate), human baby foods (meat flavors and organic) or canned pumpkin (if she will eat it) - any of those can help with constipation.

Hello, sorry to hear about Mario. I wish him a speedy recovery. It sounds like his constipation is associated with his decreased appetite and decreased activity. As he continues to regain his appetite and move more then he will begin to defecate as well. This absolutely needs to be avoided, which is why he has to see a vet right away. Anorexia is a very general sign of illness, and it could be caused by many things such as dental problems, GI obstruction, systemic illness, kidney disease, heart disease, liver disease, infection, injury, or cancer for example. The vet can diagnose what is causing the anorexia and can treat him for it. Please take him into a vet now. I hope this helps, good luck!

Straining but failing to pass anything can indicate severe inflammation, swelling or obstruction and should be checked by your vet, a rectal exam and possibly xrays of the pelvis would be required to investigate fully. It is a good sign her appetite is returning but I recommend a check up to be sure
