Contact your veterinarian or the local clinic tomorrow to make an appointment for a dental prophylaxis (cleaning). Your vet will likely recommend pre-anesthetic lab work after a physical exam to confirm Nori is able to undergo anesthesia.

Sometimes there can be vomiting after a procedure due to mild stomach/esophagus irritation. If so the vomiting should stop soon. I would call the veterinarian that due the dental to make sure they dont want to recheck Maeby. In the meantime you can continue with Maeby's normal food as it is unlikely to be the cause of her vomiting.

Typically dental cleanings are a day surgery, meaning the animal comes in during the morning and goes home later that afternoon, but if there is a concern about the animal's health during or after surgery, they can stay the night. To combat this problem, he will need at home care. Some cats will allow you to brush the teeth. Others simply will not tolerate it. There are dental treats that are available. There is also a dental gel called Maxi-guard that works very well. I hope this give you some options to help with his breath. Great job being attentive to his oral health! It will make a huge difference for him.

Hello, sorry to hear about Minou. General anesthesia and it’s associated side effects can last up to 72 hours in pets especially older pets. I am not surprised that he seems still a little more quiet after his procedure and would allow him up to 72 hrs to recover from anesthesia. You can offer probiotics but they may not be necessary at this time. If he continues to be under the weather or if he is becoming more lethargic, does not want to eat or has other clinical signs such as vomiting and diarrhea then have you veterinarian examine him again. You should let your vet know that he is not eating. Your vet can prescribe pain medications and/or an appetite stimulant to help get him eating again. Offer him a variety of canned food and see if he will eat something.

With older cats, it sometimes can take a couple of days for them to recover from anesthesia, depending on the medications that were used. Did Squeak have any bloodwork run before his procedure? If he had an underlying kidney or liver issue, it could explain some of the signs that you are seeing now. If he is still on pain medications for his tooth extraction, it could also be that he is weak if the medication is affecting him strongly. If he hasn't had bloodwork done, I would recommend checking his liver and kidney function, as well as screening for diabetes, all of which could be adversely affecting him. Additionally, there are appetite stimulants for cats that can be given post-surgery to help kickstart them into eating normally again. I would recommend Squeak be re-evaluated by his veterinarian and have any testing done that may be necessary to start treatment to get him back on track. Good luck!
