My cat has a nose spot. Could it be ringworm? Do I need a vet?

Ringworm is actually caused by a fungal infection (a bit of a misnomer!), so Pickle's deworming treatment will have no impact on the lesion on her nose. That said, ringworm lesions are typically areas of hair loss and dry scaling, and rarely have thick black scabs. It is possible that Pickle injured herself, causing this black lesion. At this point, I recommend monitoring the lesion for another week. If it seems to be going away, there is no reason for concern. However, if the lesion grows, becomes more red or itchy, she should be evaluated by her vet. I hope that all goes well!

True food allergies typically present with vomiting and diarrhea as well as red itchy skin and hair loss. If the lesion does not resolve within a few days, he will need to be seen. Hello, sorry to hear about your cat. Those do not definitely look like your typical ringworm lesions. They look like your cat has been scratching at them often and likely developed a hot-spot from this. It can be associated with allergies or fleas and will require some medications to control the itchiness and local infection. However, if it is not resolving or certainly if it spreads, she will need to see her veterinarian. Ringworm is a fungal infection that is common in kittens. It can start in the nose. It is diagnosed by plucking hairs and performing a fungal culture. I hope this information helps!

It could be a mild bacterial infection or it could be the start of ringworm (less likely if she is an indoor only cat). The other thing that can happen, especially in white cats, is skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma). I think it would be best for you to have Chloe examined by your vet to be sure.

Unfortunately it could still be ringworm - I usually run a culture for 2 weeks. Your vet could dispense a topical miconazole (e.g Conzol) to apply to the lesion. It also could have been an injury from a wound that scabbed up and then fell off. I would err on the side of caution and keep him isolated for 1 more week. Practice good hand hygiene also to prevent you getting or spreading it if its contagious.

I would recommend taking Snow White to a veterinarian. This can be anything from a bacterial infection to a fungal infection (like ringworm). They can take a woods lamp (it is like a black light) to see if it glows green. If it does it is ringworm, if it does not it still could be. Only 50% of all ringworm shows up positive with this test.
