My outdoor cat has nose and ear bumps. Bug bites? How to treat?

Poor Girl! This look a lot like wounds from chasing prey. It could also be bacterial infection from allergies. Alleriges, though, usually cause scabs else where like under the chin or around the neck. I would have your vet take a look at them as some of them look quite swollen and she may need some antibiotics. I hope this helps!

Carbon has milliary dermatitis. It is often caused by a reaction to insect bites like knats, or from allergies. Basically it is a skin infection/irritation. Usually it will clear up on its own if the cause is gone. You can clean the skin with a mild antibacterial pad and apply antibacterial ointment. If Carbon goes outside using a flea prevention product will help repell insects too. Allergies are often seasonal so as it cools off and the bugs and humidity go away this should resolve. What you are seeing on Luna may be insect bites or a skin condition known as eosinophilic granuloma complex. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Luna so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. With a clean ear canal, the most common cause of tiny bumps on the ear itself is related to hypersensitivity reactions from insect bites. The inflamed and sore lesion in front of Teak's left ear is most likely due to self-trauma from him scratching. The concern is that this skin may be infected from the excessive scratching. Your best bet is to take Teak to his vet for an exam because he may need a course of antibiotics and antihistamines to manage this issue. Be sure that Teak is receiving a high quality flea preventative (such as Advantage or Revolution) monthly because flea bites can also cause bumps on the ears. I hope that all goes well!

Mosquitoes and fleas can cause bad allergic reactions after biting a cat. Your vet may prescribe antibiotics and / or flea medication. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! A lot of skin bumps and lumps can look the same. She could have hit her nose on something and the bump is related to trauma and will go away, it could be a benign growth (like a histiocytoma), it could be part of a skin infection or immune reaction, hives or a cancerous growth. If the bump doesn't resolve in a few days I recommend having your Vet look at it. The sores around her mouth can also be due to infection or an immune condition and may or may not be related to the new bump on her nose. I hope this helps and I wish Luna a speedy recovery!

I am sorry to hear about Moonbeam! A photo of the area may help give us a better idea of what is going on. Bumps can be a sign of a skin infection (often in cats we see what is called miliary dermatitis which makes little small bumps on the skin. This can often be related to an allergy. Skin lesions also make us worry about yeast/fungal infection (such as ringworm). Swelling over the bridge of the nose with lesions may be indicative of an infection with a fungus called cryptococcosis. And in some cats, unfortunately we can get tumors of the skin. I would recommend an examination by your vet to help determine what is causing the bumps in Moonbeam and figure out how best to treat them!
