Why is there a new brown area on my cat's nose? Is it normal?

This could be a normal change given her breed and age. If it looks raw/ulcerated, red, increases in size and/or seems painful Gypsy needs to see her veterinarian to make sure it isn't something more serious.

This appears to be just a change in color of the hair alone. No worries. THe haircoat in kittens often does change as they get older. Various types of skin infections will cause a change in color of the skin. These include bacterial and fungal skin infections. I'd recommend having your cats seen by a veterinarian for a proper diagnosis.

Hello, as you may now cancer can only be diagnosed by looking at the cells of the area in question. Certainly, we can get a suspicion for cancer by assessing the gross appearance of the area in question. This means that although looking at Blue's nose I don't think it looks very aggressive to be considered a cancer, we are unable to tell unless we sample that area. Cats can get pigmentation changes with age, so this may very well be a normal change associated with his age and nothing you need to be concerned with. I would recommend monitoring the area for progression of this pigmentation change or any evidence of mass, ulcer, or thickening of the nose which would be more concerning for a cancer. Yes, we commonly see what we call Lentigo Simplex in orange cats. This should present as small discrete dark (pigmented) areas which it sounds like what you have seen in Bits. These areas tend to enlarge slightly over time and they tend to develop additional ones as they age. They are benign lesions, but they should always be flat. It looks like he may have a dermatitis on his nose which could be secondary to a bacterial infection, trauma, allergic reaction, or possibly a fungal infection. He should be examined by a vet to determine the cause. Your vet can do a culture, if needed to help diagnose.
