My senior cat has a new nose spot. Is it an age spot or cancer?

This can be seen in a few different cases, but I always worry about skin cancer in white cats, so it's best to have it checked out by your veterinarian. I have seen similar lesions when they rub their nose on something, or with certain infections, so I would not be too worried; just have it checked to be safe. It's not an emergency, but good to have her seen in the next week to ensure treatment is initiated early if it's something serious. For now, I do not recommend doing any sort of treatment at home. It's best to leave it alone until a vet can have a look. This could be a normal change given her breed and age. If it looks raw/ulcerated, red, increases in size and/or seems painful Gypsy needs to see her veterinarian to make sure it isn't something more serious.

It is difficult to say from the pictures but because it is black and is on an area where there is not much hair, I am concerned it could be a melanoma, which is a type of cancerous tumor. The scabs on Moonbeams' nose could be small wounds, or could be from something like allergies. If the scabs are on the pink part of her nose and if they appear ulcerative at all they could be a sign of squamous cell carcinoma, a type of cancer that is more common in areas exposed to the sun. I would guess the black area near her mouth is normal pigment which sometimes forms as cats get older. I would recommend having Moonbeam examined by your veterinarian for a diagnosis.

However, some cats can develop pigmentation or lack thereof in the nose which could be normal. This is not related to the surgery and it is unlikely to be something to be concerned about. If it does not appear to be a lesion or it does not appear to be bothering Happy, I would just have your veterinarian take a look at it next time Happy is due for an check up. Good luck!

Hi Your cat may seem fine, but even so, you should have a veterinarian check it out. There's no way to know what's going on by just seeing or feeling it. It could be an abscess, a mild trauma, or a more serious problem. The vet will preform a fine needle aspiration to take a sample for analysis and diagnosis.

From the pictures, it looks as though what you are seeing may be from trauma. Cat scratches to the face commonly occur on cats that are outdoor cats. Many times the hair will not grow back and the cat will be left with a small scar. If canto is indoor only and the nodule is raised, I would say get a vet to examine him to see for sure what it may be. It could be from a bug bite or a skin tumor of some type. If you cannot get to your vet right away, I would say just monitor for now and if it worsens get him seen sooner. It does not look infected or swollen from the picture. I would monitor for signs of infection which may include swelling, redness, painful to the touch, discharge, etc. I hope this helps!
