My pet hasn't had a bowel movement in one day. Is this normal?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Runiyah is adorable! I do not think the not pooping or the poop coming out and going back in has to do with the rectal temperature. I would leave her be and check the litter box tomorrow. As long as she is eating, acting normal and not vomiting she should poop soon. If it's more than 2 days with out a bowel movement contact your Vet. I wish you both the best!

Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Some dogs can withhold bowel movement for 24hrs or even longer. As long as Molly is not straining to pass stools, is not vomiting and her energy level is high, you should monitor her at home. Most of the dogs will poop within 1hr after eating, so please see if she poops after the next meal. However, if she does not pass any stools in the next 12-18hrs, a visit to your local vets will be recommended. The tablets that she is taking don't have any effect on the defecation but they may cause mild diarrhea.

Hello, I worry about cats having diarrhea when it lasts for more than two days, or is accompanied by a change in behavior, such as lethargy or increased hiding, or a decrease in appetite. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Even housebroken dogs may need re-training and positive reinforcement moving to a new home and family. At this point o would not be too worried about no bowel movement as long as she is eating, drinking and behaving normally. she may have a few accidents as she works on becoming acclimated to her new home but remain consistent and use positive reinforcement and she should adjust quickly.

The lethargy you are seeing indicates a problem as well. My advice is to monitor her tonight, and if she is still lethargic in the morning, hasn't peed, and/or still hasn't pooped, take her into a vet first thing. I hope this helps!

As long as she is eating, not vomiting and is active it could just be a fluke and she'll go just fine the following day. The weight and size of a dog depends on genetics and breed. Not all dogs weigh the same, so not all puppies weigh 16 kg at 4 months old. I hope this helps!

If Romeo has had recent excessive stool production, it may be normal to have less for a day or two. It's fine for a dog to go a day without pooping, especially with that history. If he begins to strain unproductively, become painful, uninterested in food, or vomiting, contact your veterinarian.
