My cat has a new spot on her neck. Is it an injury or infection?

Hello! it could be a skin infection or an allergic reaction, it could also be ringworm (fungal infection) , if it doesn't seem to be getting better within a week, i would recommend having it checked aby your vet

It could be an injury from outside. I would gently clean Milo's wound with warm water and antiseptic soap. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it. Best of luck.

I see what you mean about the spot on Sheshe's nose, but it doesn't appear to be infected in the picture. It may be from playing with the other cat. I would keep an eye on it for now. If it gets worse, starts to bother her, it turns red, swollen, warm to the touch, or you see pus, then I would have her seen by a vet for it. I hope this helps.

This looks like a small, localized spot of infection, sometimes referred to as a hot spot. If the infection is contained to this one area you can try to treat it at home with some topical antibiotic ointment (like Neosporin). If this does not take care of the problem, or if there are other areas like this on her skin, I would recommend having her checked out by your vet so a systemic antibiotic can be given.

Hello. That looks like a moist and sticky bacterial infection, but a proper diagnosis would come from a hands on examination with your veterinarian. It would be best to have him looked at ASAP, but in the meantime....the main goal is to clean the area and try to keep it dry. You can use some dish soap and water to gently clean the area, then wipe excess soap away and dry it . Do not rub or scrub the tissue very hard as it is probably uncomfortable. This could be from a tiff indeed. I would observe it for a few days. If it starts to swell or does not start healing you should have it examined by your vet. If it starts healing it should be fine. Do not put anything on it, just leave it be.
