My cat has a red bump on her chin. Is it a tick, bite, or infection?

This could be a bug bite or a small growth. If it is not painful and not getting bigger then I would watch it and have her seen by your vet if it doesn’t go away in a few days. Sometimes I need to poke a growth with a needle and look at it under the microscope to determine the cause. This is not necessarily an emergency but should be seen and worked up if it doesn’t go away in a few days or gets bigger. Watch for discharge from swelling, change in appetite or energy level.

This is likely a small bug bite or an inflammatory reaction to some type of trauma (puncture, scratch, abrasion) to the skin. You can try cleaning it with a small amount of Betadine diluted 50:50with warm water, letting it air dry, and then applying a thin layer of Neosporin to the area twice a day to see if this can start to heal over the next few days.. Also an e-collar purchased from your local pet store can be placed on Simba to prevent her from scratching this area and causing more irritation as well as delaying the healing process. If this doesn't help then its best to see your vet to have this area investigated closely and in person. The vet may also want to shave the hair around it to get a better view and prescribe topical pet friendly antibiotics to help this heal. You can clean the area with hydrogen peroxide. I would then take a hot wet washcloth and massage the area. The heat and massage will improve the blood supply to the area so it will heal more quickly. If there is a pocket of puss the goal is to get the scab off so the infection can drain. If there is an open wound then I would apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it afterwards. If she becomes lethargic and not eating then I would bring her in for an exam as she may have a fever and need antibiotics. From the picture, it looks like a puncture wound or bite wound that has become infected although it could be other skin issues like a fungal infection, parasitic infection, or a bad bacterial infection. Keep the area clean with a mild cleansing cloth a few times daily or 3% hydrogen peroxide on the wound until you can take Snowie into your veterinarian- snowie may need to have fungal or bacterial culture done on the wound and may need to be on antibiotics or another medication for a while. YEs this is quite likely a tick bite reaction and there may be part of the tick still there causing irritation. Bathing with warm saline soaked cotton wool will help to keep the area clean if she allows you, monitor closely for increasing redness, pain, lameness or fever which may indicate a widespread infection which would require additional treatment. I recommend using a tick prevention such as bravecto every 3months to prevent further incidents
