Why does my cat's neck smell sweet? Could it be an infection?

An unusually sweet or fruity smell coming from your cat can be indicative of diabetes. I highly recommend that you have your cat examined by his/her veterinarian ASAP. With proper treatment, diabetes is a managable disease in cats.

If he is affected by dental disease, his breathe will have a very foul odor. This could be what you are smelling. Anal gland secretions have a fishy smell. I have also seen pieces of food become lodged in between teeth and as bacteria cling to the piece of food that is stuck in the mouth, it can cause quite the odor. Have you put any medicine on that area such as flea prevention before it was noticed? Sometimes that is a sign of a reaction from a topical. Another area to check is his ears, sometimes they can scratch their neck instead and. Cause a wound if there is an infection or mites. If it doesn't improve then your vet can check for an infection or an allergy that could cause it

It looks like she has a skin infection or an allergic dermatitis. You could bathe her with a medicated cat shampoo and see if that helps. Otherwise, she should be examined by a vet for treatment. She may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, and/or a corticosteroid to treat.

Diabetes is the most common cause of "sweet" urine smell due to the excess glucose that is filtered out. Occasionally UTI can alter the smell of the urine. I would recommend taking Hope to the vet to check out what is going on so she can get treatment, if needed.
