Why does my cat keep moving her kittens to new hiding places?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 11 months and 23 days old

She continues to move her kittens. Sometimes its behind the couch, under my bed and even in my boys toy box. Why would she be doing this?

She is trying to find a safe and quiet place to take care of them. I would suggest providing her with a box in a dark area of the home with little to no traffic. Once she feels secure, she should not try to move them as much.

Put the box in a room and close the box. That way, Kora can't move them around. She may be moving them because where the box is could be too noisy and busy for her. Nursing cats need peace and quiet.

She needs privacy for her and her kittens, and she's showing you that by trying to hide them under the couch. I would move her tub into a small room with food, water, and a litter box. She may feel more comfortable there.
