My cat lost his voice and isn't eating. Should I go to the vet?

Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. Sometimes loss of voice can be seen in cats that are very weak. I recommend that you have Teddy evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It could be Blackie has a respiratory infection affecting her ability to meow. If she's congested, she won't eat as much. Cats like to smell their food, and if they can't smell it, they won't eat. Have her seen by a vet today. Best of luck.

Melvin could be suffering with a sore throat. It might be secondary to a virus. I would recommend a vet check up and in the meantime to offer moist food. Fish flavours are often popular amongst cat, slightly warmed up would be even better for him. If declining normal cat food, he might be interested in some tuna in water, no salt/oil.

What a cute kitten! Offering a meat flavored baby food may help entice him to eat. Warming his food may also allow him to smell it better which will help his appetite. Offer him small meals several times a day as his stomach is too small to eat a lot at one time at this age. Definitely have him rechecked by your veterinarian if he's not eating by tomorrow. Poor Chatter! Feeding a diet aimed at skin health will actually be beneficial to the lining of the throat as well. Royal Canin and Nutro are both good diets that would be beneficial. Giving him an additional omega 3 fatty acid supplement for cats will also help to decrease inflammation. Lastly, it's possible a virus is also at play here and could be causing some inflammation in the throat. Since this is your first time experiencing this, it may be worthwhile to have him examined and see if the doctor suspects a virus is the real cause. Some of these viruses may respond to cat supplement called Lysine. It's always best to gather information and then move forward with any preventive measures. I hope this helps.

I think it is ok to wait, and monitor T closely for the next 24-48 hours. Certain viruses can cause a change in a cat's voice and as long as there are no other signs, supportive care is really the only course of treatment in many cases. Make sure she continues eating well, that she does not become more lethargic, and that new signs such as eye or nose discharge do not occur. If you notice any of these signs, I would contact your veterinarian. I hope T is feeling better very soon.
