Hi. Im sorry Miyu is losing weight. There are alot of reasons this could happen. High thyroid, parasites, irritable bowel disease, cancer, and some metabolic or endocrine diseases. If the labwork was normal, the tooth was fixed, and she is eating well, i would recommend the following...fecal test, thyroid check, addominal ultrasound and chest xrays. There is a lot of things that won't show up on labs, so these are the next steps. Good luck

I definitely think you should have Dahlia examined by your veterinarian. A few diseases that could cause an increased appetite with weight loss include intestinal parasites, diabetes, and hyperthyroidism. Your vet can examine Dahlia and her stool, and may recommend checking lab work if parasites seem unlikely. All of these diseases are very treatable, but it's important to get a diagnosis quickly.

Yes, the ultrasound should have seen if there was anything abnormal in his abdomen. It may have been intestinal movement as you thought. Hopefully with treatment of his diabetes his weight will stabilize. The abdomen may just seems larger now since he lost the weight. Can you post the blood work as your values are not the same as the US? I would confirm it again. I haven't in 13 years seen a diabetic cat present with out weight loss. Unless you caught him very early.

Although we can not prescribe treatment via an online method (illegal with our veterinary licenses), what i can tell you is that an ultrasound can not assess liver function. Ultrasound is just an image so it can tell you size and texture changes to organs and evaluate for masses, fluid, etc. Also the good appetite and energy level are not typical with liver failure. Your cat has elevated liver enzymes and total bilirubin but this does not always mean liver failure. I would try to get better clarification from your vet about what was seen on the ultrasound and were the other organs normal (pancreas, GI tract, etc.). More common causes of these bloodwork changes would include liver/biliary infection, pancreatitis, and underlying GI disease associated with the above. Cancer and certain infectious diseases such as FIP can as well. So options would include additional testing to search for a cause (such as pancreatitis testing, liver aspirates, etc.) and/or symptomatic treatment can be attempted for pancreatitis, liver infection, etc. I hope this helps and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach!

I would recommend the bloodwork if possible. Many of the symptoms your describe could be due to hyperthyroidism which can often be managed with diet or medication. Renal disease diabetes are also concerns. Speak with your vet to determine what they suspect is most likely and find out if it is possible to test for one thing at a time instead of running a full panel at once. The vet will suggest the best options but often if you explain financial constraints we can work with owners.
