Why does my cat have loose stools and bile vomit after feeding changes?

I am sorry to hear about Felix's stool problems! We can see loose stools or color changes in stool as a result of a change in food (even if you are feeding the same brand, a different flavor may have different ingredients or coloring agents). If Felix's energy level is normal and he has no vomiting, then you can try switching him back to his original food and seeing if his stools return to normal after a few days,or you can try picking up a probiotic at the pet store and see if this improves the stools. If these do not work, a trip to the vet is recommended (or if he starts vomiting/stops eating/is lethargic). In the future, if you want to switch foods it is recommended to do so gradually, slowly mixing the new food in with the old food.

Yes, it is certainly possible that the stress of his visitor coupled with his ingestion of the other cat's food and treats could have caused some gastroenteritis (inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract), which led to diarrhea. A bit of blood can occur in the stool as a result of irritation to the colon. If Casper is still eating, drinking and acting relatively normally, you can try a home remedy. Start by withholding food for 24 hours, then offer a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken for a few days before gradually mixing his normal food with the boiled chicken over another 5-7 days. If at any point Casper becomes lethargic, starts vomiting, has profuse bloody diarrhea, or stops eating, he will need to take a trip to the vet for further evaluation. Sometimes even a simple diet switch from one food to another is enough to cause intestinal inflammation or bacterial imbalance and diarrhea in cats. Though his risk is low, it's also possible he could have an intestinal parasite (cannot be ruled out without a fecal test). You can try adding one tbsp of canned pumpkin to his diet for fiber. If he does not improve soon, it would be best to take him to a vet. Sometimes a short course of medication is necessary to resolve this type of diarrhea.

Loose stools can be from a number of things including food allergies, parasites, underlying illness, changes in diet, etc. If you haven't changed Felix's food at all, and he's still having loose stool, bringing him or a sample of his stool into your vet for a complete exam and fecal test is a good idea to help rule out common issues.

Other possible causes could include illnesses, infections, parasites etc. A good first step is to bring in a sample of Mac's stool to your vet for an exam and to check for parasites/common GI issues. If he checks out OK, looking to switch him to a different diet or trying out a feeding trial with your vet may help if there is an ingredient he is allergic to. It is best to transition to new food over a period of 7-9 days, gradually adding in more of the new and less of the old, to avoid further GI irritation.

I can certainly understand being worried about Winston! Changing his food frequently can cause GI upset, and that may be a cause of his vomiting. Considering what you described, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken/white fish and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
