My cat is limping and in pain. When should I take her to the vet?

Please take Witt to a veterinarian for an exam and possibly xeays. Limping is always a sign of pain. Pain can be caused by a sprain, foreign body lodged in the paw, fracture or other musculoskeletal trauma. This could also be caused by an abscess or inflammation etc. Please take your kitty to your vet today, so the vet can take the pain and initiate treatment.

I am sorry to hear about Luna. If Luna is limping there are many different possible causes, including soft tissue injury (such as a muscle sprain/strain, torn ligament), a fracture (it isn't always obvious when a pet breaks a bone if the fracture is not displaced), a torn or sore toenail, a skin infection of the toenails or bottom of the foot, nerve disorders, or in older pets tumors of the muscle or bone. I would recommend examination by a vet if the issue has been present since Sunday with no improvement. Unfortunately there are no safe pain medications available over the counter for cats, so I would just try to keep her quiet/restrict her activity/keep her indoors until she can be seen.

Poor girl. It sounds like she may have a serious injury there and could have dislocated her hip joint or tore her ligament. You really should take her to your vet now to get some x-rays done of her leg. Most cats with mild injuries won't show you that they are hurt, so if a cat is limping its usually pretty serious and should be looked at quickly. It sounds very much like Apple is in pain. She could have sustained an injury that is causing the limping and the hesitancy to move. I recommend you take her to your vet immediately, so that a physical exam can determine exactly where the pain is coming from, and then x-rays can be used to determine the exact problem. After that, she should be on pain relievers to help her be more comfortable, until the problem heals or is definitely treated.

You should take her to an out of hours vet or Pet ER today. Your vet;s office should have emergency information on their answering machine. In the UK all veterinarians have to provide an out of hours service, be it themselves or via referral to another veterinary clinic. This is obviously a painful condition which should be addressed today.

Poor Sphinx! She sounds like she is in pain! I'd definitely recommend taking her to see a veterinarian right away. She may have a broken leg or internal injury and needs immediate veterinary medical care. She will need pain medication as well. After a physical exam, your veterinarian may recommend x-rays to rule out or diagnose any fractures. A medication such as Metacam (meloxicam), which is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory, may be dispensed for pain management along with some exercise restriction.
